loud grinding when cranking

ok i replaced the slave cylinder today.....the link cable is gone im going to replace that tommorow as well now heres what happened...i got to start the car and all i get is a very loud grinding and the car wont start at all just a very loud grind.....6bolt lock 2g head 6 bolt flywheel............im thinking this grinding is the flywheel ....please help

Sounds like you grinded the teeth on the starter or the flywheel remove starter and takes a looksey.

makes sense to me....its a brand new flywheel .......i thought i was supposed to use the 6bolt flywheel for the 2g with the 1g block though right? also do i have to drop the tranny to do all of this?

im using the 2g starter would that casue that problem? are 1st gen diff from the 2nd?

I had a starter go bad and it did just what you're saying. I thought I must have been missing a couple of teeth on my flywheel, but it was just the starter. Weak solenoid, I guess. I could always get the car started: I just put it in 5th and pushed it forward a few inches, then it would engage. Won't work with an auto, I don't think. I have no idea which starter you should be using, though.

Which starter plate are you using? You need to use the 2g starter plate.

im almost certain im using the 2g starter plate......but im not to sure

im getting it towed to the house today.......now i have to figure out where to start.....i guess fixing the slave cylinder is my first priority,then i guess check the starter first then work my way to the flywheel which is brand new,hopefuly i didnt damage the starter , rather of damaged the flywheel ### its under warranty

Replace the starter, and see if it still makes the noise.

ok i just got it towed here....i dont know where to begin .....im gonna remove the starter today and go from there....ill post back once its off

okm im having trouble removing the starter anyone have any tips to make this easier?
