I was recently messing around with my 97-gsx, and i flipped the bov around, the end that the dump tube is normally mounted on, i put to the upper I/C piping, and the other end to the dump tube. As a result, the BOV now flutters isntead of the squeek, and it seems to be holding all the boost (14psi) that my turbo is putting out, it sure seems like it too, and it sounds sweet, if only it was a little louder... try it!

damn i wish this woulda came up when i was in the market for a bov.
as for the surge i really wouldnt worry too much. i get minor surge with my stock Evo BOV. i searched, its normal.

boost gauge and controller should be the first mods after maintnence anyways.

15psi is max stock form PSI i think. correct me if im wrong.

Held 20psi. WOW I am very happy. and surge isnt high enough to worry about, good. I am going to go ahead and start writing the tech article now, and have it finished after I do everything to mine(test wise) to have another check on the record before I post a tech article. I thought all the free mods had already been covored. Until Dan ( sd_ff22) came up with this idea. Thank-you Dan. and thank-you Pitbull for being willing to test it out yourself. Now it is not just me saying it works It is me Pitbull and eddied118 saying it works. I feel confident this will end up being as stated in a earlier post "one of the best free mods". As for how much a stock system can take thats depends on what you call stock. My car is stock, w/ported o2-mani-radious'd turbo flipped bov and hand made MBC. I do not plan on putting over 15psi on my car until I get hard pipes and exhaust, and maybe a few other parts. But that really varies from person to person I have seen people run 22psi on stock internals it can do it but I dont think it will last keep it low to be safe stay 15psi and under even if some here is running 26psi on a bone stock system I wouldnt do all cars tolerances are different and you car may or may not die

Well before i put my mbc on i was hitting 18 pounds on my stock fuel sustem and t25. No fuel cuts. I have a greddy type-s and i think im leaking because when i put the mbc on i only can hit 14 pounds. I loostened the bolt up alot to get that awesome sound out. This thread made me think about the BOV. It only took 10 years to find this mod LOL. Good stuff guys.

Wrong.
First two mods after maintenance should be Boost/vac gauge and LOGGER.
There is no way to say what is a safe max boost to run unless you can see what is really going on with your car.
Every car is different.
Just because you are not getting fuel cut doesn't mean you are not doing damage to your engine.
Be smart about your mods. Logger will go a long way for you, and even if you out grow it someday you can still sell it to someone else who needs it.

About this mod. Billy and I work together and 1 day after looking at how a SSQV works I figured why not use the stock bov the same way? Since I have hard pipes and a type-s, I figured I would have Billy try it becase he is still on his stock pipes and BOV. Glad to see that its working out for people. Someone said it best. why buy something to replace something you already have that works just as good? If nothing else it will hold people over till they can get pipes and a bov together.

Cliffs notes.
FIRST 2 MODS AFTER MAINTENANCE
BOOST/VAC GAUGE
LOGGER

but why would you need to log a stock engine/boost setting? i dont think the addition of a gauge would need to be logged. raise in boost would be tho.

i think a boost controller would be more effective so you can atleast keep the boost at a stock level.

then when you do start upgrading, things such as exhausts and intakes have been know to raise boost levels just by freeing up air flow. you would need a boost controller to keep levels conservative before you can log the effects its had.

plus bolt ons to dont increase the output, just efficiency. thats y the logger upgrade is in the stage 2 of the upgrade path.

Here's my paint drawing on it LOL the red is the valve and the blue is the pressure from boost.

first bov is regular and the second is the reversed way and from what I see it would not open at all under boost since the boost is keeping it closed

You're missing a diaphragm. The vacuum pushes and pulls on a diaphragm, not directly on the valve.

TurboXS takes their RFL, puts a recirc tube on it, and flips it and calls it a different BOV with unlimited boost holding potential, just like this one. Except I imagine the valve or the diaphragm will eventually break on this one. If you were crafty you could do the same thing with a 1G instead of crushing it (I know about the DDG mod too...).

A logger is the second one to get so you aren't blind when you get the third mod, the boost controller.

is this bad? bc when i seen a stock pic it was up not down, when i tried to put it up the piping wouldnt work like its backwards, can anyone clear this up?

I run mine upside down.

I think he is talking about the BOV upside down like 1gs have. No, how you position it mostly has to do with the way it recirculates back to the dump tube. If you are doing
a custom pipe setup you can put it where ever you like.

edit: ya like the pic shows. Space gets tight, depending on how you set everything up.

here is a pic, and also hissing from th intake does that sound right or bad? bc my car has serious idleling problems.

It doesn't really matter what position you have the BOV in. It's going to function in any direction as long as it's hooked up correctly.

Just for the record I have my HKS on the bottom of my UICP right before my MAF-T next to the throttle body elbow.

I'd recommend a good BLK test as the first step if you're having idle issues.

Theres a little bit of hiss that can be heard from the BISS/IACV which is normal. If you are scared it's coming from elsewhere around the manifold get some soapy water or starter fluid to pinpoint your leak.

what ever it is i keep stalling right when i let off gas or press clutch it just drops unless i give it gas.

sounds like you have a boost leak...this same symptom occurs when you vent your BOV to the atmosphere too. do a boost leak test and fix the leaks. Also, the orientation of the BOV doesn't matter; it looks fine in the pic.

now that u mention that i did vent my BOV but put it back bc of that reason there is hissing coming from the intake manny area.

The stock BOV is supposed to be that way. Don't you see the holes where that pipe bolts to the air filter housing. The hissing sound on the other hand is something not hooked up or leaking. There are two vacuum lines that run on the bottom of the intake man. I found mine unhooked when I first got my car. There are actually a bunch of vacuum lines under there You'd better check them out. Unless your man is got a leak somewhere. Better dome some visual checks on ALL the hoses.
