I have read a lot of "controversy" regarding bov venting to the atmosphere. I want to vent mine, for my own reasons, but I don't want to change from the 1g. Is this possible? :confused: Any help would be appreciated, and no flaming, please.
 
Thank you, that is what I thought. If I go with a Maf translator and want to vent as is can I just run a gm maf with the translator of the intake or do I have to use the one of the uicp. If I have to run it off my uicp how can I do that with my setup?

The only reason the stock MAS will not work while venting is because of the location of it. If you put the GM MAF in the stock location you still wouldn't be able to vent correctly. It has to be placed on the UICP between the BOV and the throttle body if you want to vent correctly. You will have to get a new uicp to work with the GM MAF - www.dejontool.com sells a nice uicp/maft setup
 
It seems like the answer should be a resounding "no," but I'm not sure where to go from here... I have an HKS SSQV bov that I'm recirculating, and I get compressor surge at all boost levels. I can't "loosen" the bolt on the back anymore because I have already removed it for boost leak purposes. The recirculation hose isn't "kinked" but it has a VERY slight bend to it in the middle that doesn't seem like it would be enough to cause surge. Anyone have any ideas?

*EDIT* I have included a picture. You probably can't even see the bend in the line it's so slight. Does anyone know where I can find a hose that will bend like this or one that could replace this, though?

Dont vent unless your running MAF-T Otherwise you'll only worsen the situation. I think there is a tech article on recirc that explains why.

Do you think you could trim about a 1/2" off of the piping to reduce the angle a little bit? I dont think thats your problem, but I see what you are saying about the "bend"
 
your install is fine. That bend is nothing, I don't even see anything wrong with it, I have seen worse where it is very noticible that there is a kink in the return line. Are you hearing that compressor surge sound at low boost when shifting at low rpm/boost? At higher boost it doesnt do it? The HKS seems to be normal when it does that.
 
an hks b/o sounds kind of like comp. surge, at low boost kinda like a turkey

OMG ... Venting is no bueno??? Why isn't there a thread about this??? Just kidding...

As far as the "compressor surge" sound, it is mainly noticable at low boost. If you guys are saying it's just an HKS SSQV thing, though, I'll deal with it. I was just figuring I'd deal with the issues venting presented as opposed to destroying my turbo. I'll keep it happily recirculated, though, if its normal. Thanks a lot, guys!
 
Can anyone tell me what i need to properly vent my blow off valve? Some people have told me I need a MAF-T but I'm not quite sure if this is correct or where to find one. Can anyone please provide links to where I can find the right part I need to properly vent my blow off valve? Thank you.
 
Check the classifieds, you will need a MAF-T, a GM 3" MAF, couplers for the MAF, and a upper intercooler pipe, just research "blow off valve venting"
 
Just do a quick search on MAF-T and you'll find your answer. By the way, I have to know you if your from Kearny....I grew up there for 18 years and graduated HS last year. I drive a green 2g GSX. (avatar)
 
Take a peak in the parts catalog section and you will find vendors for everything you are asking about.
Maft =200
Gm maf =50-75 used
uicp =100-250
intake=50-200
 
My friend bought his 2g eclipse with a vented bov and the car runs really bad. It is slow and studders and does not make much boost at all. Would the vented bov cause something to go bad since the bov has been vented with a stock mas for a long time. My friend bought the car like this, it has a rebuilt turbo btw.
 
It could be something else. I don't see why the car wouldn't boost because of the vented bov unless, it leaks. Did he ever reset the ecu?
 
I really doubt the vented BOV is the problem.. Venting the BOV may make the car not run as well, and will make it run rich between shifts, but I see no reason why it would effect the car like you are saying.
 
Check Valve timing, exhaust leaks. Also explain how you did the boost leak test, in extreme detail because not many know how to do the test and think they did it right but in it was done totally wrong and it still is leaking. But definitely valve timing and also ignition timing. Compression test wont hurt either.

Boost leak test-we sprayed soapy water all over the intercooler piping, turbo, intake manifold, and everything. We filled up the turbo system with air and it held 11 psi, then we stopped. Its been a couple of months since we did about 10 boost leak tests. We heard nothing and fix the boost leaks at the bov and at the throttle body elbow and did another test checked out fine to me. Maybe we should have put 17lbs in it. During a boost leak test how long should the motor hold boost?Compression test-180 in all cylinders, car has 107,000 miles. What is valve timing? We could not get the idle down low enough to check the ignition timing because we don't have a code reader. I wonder if my 1g dsmlink will work to check codes and stuff. because I know I can change the setting to 2g ecu. I think I could of used it to work with the ignition timing. It idles at 1000 rpms.
 
Turn the engine over manually to Top dead center Cyl#1. Make sure the marks on the Cams line up with a STRAIT EDGE. And the mark on the crank pulley is at TDC. When you do a Boost leak test, have the engine at 30* ATDC and test it. It should pressurize fairly easy, you should be able to take the compressor off, walk away get a drink and still see 5psi on the boost guage in the car. Get a can of seafoam and run it through to find pre-turbo exhaust leaks.
