2g Automatic intermediate shaft length

Does anyone know the length of the intermediate shaft of a 2ga AUTOMATIC? The shaft that goes from the transmission to the driver side front wheel that bolts to back of the block. Is it different length than the manual? I have searched and in the past I thought I had saw a picture.

Yes the intermediate shaft is longer for an auto than it is on a 5-speed...I have one laying in may garage with an axle what wont come off havent tried to press it off yet....I went out and bought a 5 speed one...

Hmmm... I was talking to someone on ECMTuning and he thought that the Auto was shorter 16 inches vs the manual of 17 inches.

Can you measure the ones you have?

Ok I just measured the one that I have. I do not know if it is manual or automatic. I measured it and it comes to 16.5 inches.

SO, which one is it? Does anyone know?

The automatic shaft is the longer one. I tried to put an auto shaft on a stick car and it was about .5"-.75" too long. I dont have the exact dimensions but i know that the auto is longer. If i remember ill measure the auto shaft i have laying in the shop next time im down there.

Alright, if the manual one is shorter, how long is it? If someone can tell me how long the manual one is, I will know for mine.

ok, I found some examples of each. The automatic halfshaft length is about 17 inches.


The manual halfshaft length is about 16.5 inches

Is just the shaft different or do axles need to be changed to? Just bought race axles and hope they are the same length.

The shaft(length) is the only thing thats different between 5-speed and auto intermediate shafts.....

The axle is the same between 95-99. The only thing thats different is if it has abs or not...
