Vancouver,
I let a buddy take a car for a day. He ended up taking it for a 140mile trip. Once he got back he was telling how nice my car is this and that and how fast it is. Then he mentions to me that it starts to misfire around 4K. I take it for a spin to see wahts up and floor it in fifth and i see boost shoot up past 18 psi., i let of right away

He told me he had it floored for good majority of the trip when he was driving it and car was misfiring and he kept his foot down thinking its somewhat normal. wtf.

I checked the mbc to find out the adjusting screw has fallen out.

Now he's been boosting for who knows how long. He told me manifold was red hot when he pulled over, and the temperature needle was pointing at red, (my rad fuse died),
SO the car was overheated and boosted past 20 psi on stock fuel, (rewired pump) being the only mod.

Now i dont know if im too paranoid but i hear like there is ticking noise now, My car has only 147,000 kms on it, i doubt it was lifters. What is it that I should check for to see if my car is ok. I plan of pressuring the coolant system to see if the headgasket is ok from overheating the car. What else is it that i should check considering that he was boosting it for who knows how long on 24 psi as he said.

I have the car set on stock boost right now, hose going from j pipe to wastegate.
Car seems to run fine other than ticking noise. Rods?

So question is what should i check for?

id watch your oil and coolant levels because that headgasket is going to be causing problems sooner or later. if i were you i would take it apart meachine the head do arps a mitsu 4 layer head gasket and take the blance shafts out. assuming nothing else like your walls or block surface is way out of wack.

Hey thanks very much for the replys.
I checked the compression today at work.
155 all accross. Tomorrow I'll check the coolant system. I'll preassurize it and see how it holds? Since it gets dark fast i doubt I'll have any time to check for boost leaks.
Car drives fine, other than ticking but I had others listen to it (experienced mechanics) and say its nothing, just lifters.
Some oil was missing ,catch cans, were filled with more oil then when i checked teh car over before i handed it to a "friend".
I also drove the car it drove fine. Boosts fine np.

Hey now check this, I found pliers in the rad fan plastic cover. Pliers man, f*ucking pliers. No wonder fuse died and car overheated. Fan couldnt turn. Pliers fell down and blocked the fan from turning.Who knows what he was doing. He might have even tryed to raise the boost on purpose and then took the screw out and pretended it fell out once he realized what he did.

Its alright tho, we are sparring on Monday, he's got a fight coming up. Time for me to be a "friend".
Thanks guys.:thumb::thumb::thumb:
Any more suggestions on what to do?

So who drives your car from now on?:)

Because the fuel pump was re-wired, could that have prevented the car from hitting fuel cuts?

No you can have the best fuel system in the world and still hit fuel cut. All it is doing is cutting fuel to save the motor but not because it does not have enough fuel. It cuts the fuel when the MAS is over run from running too much boost.

Whos pliers where in the fan shroud? If they are yours and you know they where in your car you pretty much know he may have been messing with the MBC.

Anyways my fiance is always wondering why she cant drive my car and this is the number one reason she cant. I would only put 50% blame on his friend and the other on the OP. Why let someone drive your car that doesnt know if its over boosting or may tamper with it. Lesson learned I guess.

what was the reason for letting him take the car in the first place? stupid and its just as much your fault for letting a retard take your car

I am a retard for letting him take it. Had to take sleeping pills that night to fall asleep. Never again to anyone, as long as I am alive and my car is in one piece.
Didn't get around to testing the cooling system, tomorrow I hope.:dsm:

I have had rods go out on me and they are a hard thing to miss, you car would be down on power and it would knock pretty violently, is the noise in the upper end of the engine? If it is its probably injectors of lifters, both are known to be noisy on dsm's. Even if you determine that it is lifters replacing them may not cure the ticking sound, i found this information on AllData. Unfortunately a slight ticking sound is quite common on these cars and really is nothing to be worried about. If you have the tools I would recommend an injector balance test, sometimes if you have dirty or clogged injectors they will make a bit more noise than normal. If nothing else try running some good quality fuel injector cleaner through it and see if that helps.

Don't just say "oh well" and ignore the fact that your motor has been brutalized.
Run some Seafoam in the oil for a day and then change your oil. Check the oil for metal filings.
Check the turbo for excessive shaft play.
Check the plugs to see if they've been blown apart by detonation or melted by running lean.

Maybe the shop already looked at the plugs when they checked compression.

And like JayRolla said, fuel cut is what happens when the ECU detects that your airflow is too high (overboosting). It assumes the WGA is not functioning and your turbo is overboosting, so to spare your engine the torture, it cuts fuel and spark and the car feels like it hit a brick wall.

Lifter tick usually goes away or gets quieter at higher rpm and when the oil warms up. Do you notice that with your ticking? I've noticed a big difference in oil pressure between 5w30 and 10w30 motor oil (goes up a bunch with 10w30), so if you're running 5w30, you might try 10w30 for this oil change and see if it helps with the ticking. The lifters are last in line to get oil, so bumping the oil pressure may help **if** it's lifter tick.

This gives me another good excuse to tell my wife the next time she reminds me that I've only let her drive my car once (in a parking lot) in the past 10 years.
