hi.my car was smoking last week and i did the compression test my self coz i thought it was the H/G and i get 150 across.so i took it to a michanic to make sure it was the h/g before i take it apart and whene they did the comp. test they got 130 130 100 130 and they sead this is not to bad and they sead its not the head gasket .they think it mybe the turbo coz. they see oil on the ic house .do you guy's think this is still good or do i have to get the head out..need some help.thank you

so you got 150's across the board.. they got 130's and one 100? weird.. they don't think it is the headgasket? why wouldn't they think that at point a finger at the turbo? LOL.. oil gets into you IC piping even if your turbo is not bad...

i would check the comp again yourself. but that sounds like you are losing compression in 1 cylinder by 30psi which points more to the headgasket than you having a bad turbo. and i would recommend going to another shop next time.. ;)

Compression specifications

Standard compression___170-225 psi___178 psi________________192 psi
Service limit___________100 psi_______133 psi________________146 psi

your at 130 and the service limit 121. i would check the compression again.
i think there blameing the turbo for the smoking because of the compression test results but one of the cylinders is under the service limit.

they took it for a drive and they sead that there is no sign for a H/G leak coz there is no coolant on the oil ,oil cup and they sead that the smoke is blue and white comb.i,m confuse.how much oil you sould get on ic pipe. i got lots..thanks guys my car is 1Gtsi

they pot oil on the 100 and it went up to 130 also.sorry i forgot.thanks and they sead some engine treatment could fix it.

normally you add one capful (1-2 tablespoons) of oil to the cylinder with low compression.

Let it sit for a minute to allow the oil to flow down and coat the sides of the cylinder and piston. If there are any gaps in the rings, the oil will seal them for the next few minutes.

Crank the engine for 4 revs, remembering to floor the throttle.

If the reading improved significantly (more than 30 psi), your rings are probably worn.

so i think your rings are worn.

do you think that could couse a lot fo smoke? thanks.is there a quick fix.

it will cause blue smoke to come out of the exhaust, and your dipstick to pop out under boost, you need a rebuild, cylinders honed, maybe bored and some new rings.

do you think that could couse a lot fo smoke? thanks.is there a quick fix.

Perform a leak-down test to determine where the compression is escaping (intake, exhaust, crankcase, gasket, etc.). I still think you have worn ring. So, You need a rebuild.

LISTEN to where you can hear the compressed air.

At the crank case: Remove the oil filler cap. If you can clearly hear
a whooshing/howling by listening at the oil filler cap, you're losing
compression through the rings.

At the tailpipe: It is your exhaust valves if you can hear it (or even
feel puffs on your hand) at the tail pipe.

At the intake manifold: It is your intake valves if you can clearly
hear a whooshing/howling by listening at the throttle body/intake manifold.

If the results are inconclusive, it is probably your head gasket.

If you suspect a blown head gasket, which has symptoms such as reduced power, white or blue smoke out the tailpipe, oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. l remove the coolant cap and watch the coolant level when you add the compressed air. If it rises or you see bubbles, you have a leaking head gasket.

Worn rings will also result in oil in the ic piping. The pcv system will allow those crank case fumes to recirc into your intake system. You will get more blow-by the more clearance you have between your rings and cylinder bore. Nick i'll still help you buddy, it's just too cold to be working outside. If you are driving it you can come by my house this weekend and me and my roomates will look over it over a couple of cold ones. These shops around edmonton don't know dsm's worth a ####.
Really sounds like rings to me though, any blue smoke?
