well not that long ago i put a rod through my block and when i was pulling the valve cover off the other day to pull the head i noticed that there was alot of metal shavings just sitting in the oil on top of the head bolts. the turbo that i have on the car was just bought and put on right before this happened. i am worried that with all the metal shavings my turbo could be junk. i dont want to put this turbo on my built motor if it is just going to pump metal shavings into my fresh motor. my question is, is there any way i could clean all the metal shavings out of my turbo or what would be the best way to go about this?

sorry if this should be in turbo tech i just thought it was a newbie question

i definately wont be running it like it is. i thing it was on fp's website ( dont quote me on that)where i seen the t28 that they have which looks just like the stock t25. could i have my t25 rebuilt with the t28 internals or no?

Yup...go pop turbo shop does the conversion but it costs almost as much as just buying one

im really hoping that the turbo aint junk. i litterally just put it on the car and didnt get any miles on it
Customer of mine bought a freshly-rebuilt T25 and installed it on his engine which was in the process of taking a shit; the turbo lasted approximately 20 miles. Here's the outcome:

Compressor wheel damage, journal bearings are pitted from the metal in the oil supply, and the thrust plate is damaged from the oil supply holes being completely blocked by foreign metal.

what all are the differences between the 2? could i just buy the parts to do it myself then take it to get balanced?
Sure...all you gotta do is:

  • Buy a T28 compressor.
  • Buy a T28 turbine.
  • Buy a parts kit with a 360* thrust plate.
  • Have the rotating assembly balanced.
  • Get the center housing machined so the T28 backplate will fit.
  • Get the compressor cover machined so the T28 compressor will fit.
  • Get the turbine housing machined so the T28 turbine will fit.
  • Buy the stronger adjustable wastegate actuator so you can run enough boost to make the T28 worth having.

Be prepared to spend $700-$800 to make this happen.

well i think that settles it. im just going to buy a new turbo. hoping to find something that can push around 25lbs maybe more. any ideas on what i could get that could do that easily so that i am not stressing the trubo and not suffering alot of lag?

That's the best route. Better to risk a used turbo on a brand new motor than it is to fill a brand new turbo with metal from break-in just to have it not be covered by warranty should anything go wrong.

You may want to look into buying an inline filter from FP to prevent this from happening again.
