well not that long ago i put a rod through my block and when i was pulling the valve cover off the other day to pull the head i noticed that there was alot of metal shavings just sitting in the oil on top of the head bolts. the turbo that i have on the car was just bought and put on right before this happened. i am worried that with all the metal shavings my turbo could be junk. i dont want to put this turbo on my built motor if it is just going to pump metal shavings into my fresh motor. my question is, is there any way i could clean all the metal shavings out of my turbo or what would be the best way to go about this?

sorry if this should be in turbo tech i just thought it was a newbie question

i would take it to the nearest diesel shop/performance shop and have then take a look at it and flush it out.

that sux but im definately not willing to run it on my new motor like this
what do you guys think about breaking a motor in on a cheap ebay turbo?

What do you think about throwing away $250 on a turbo that you will have to replace in 6 months? Just save your money and buy a real one...or take that 250 and rebuild the one you got.

well from what i hear when you first start your new motor and let it get to operating temp that it will happen wether you prime it or not

Ive built several engines and have yet to destroy a turbo from it. If you used engine assembly lube on everything when assembling and prime the engine, its not gonna be a issue. I change the oil after the first 500 anyway...but i wouldnt worry about that at all. Unless you didnt have the head and lifters cleaned out during the rebuild...

my break in method is 2 step that bi*** and launch it out the garage at 5500rpm sets everything where it needs to be LOL just kidding dont do this. Also the turbo may not be junk... send it out and have looked out. you may get lucky

Break a motor in exactly how you plan on driving it. The only thing i will say is don't hold constant engine speeds for prolonged periods of time. Keep it under load

im really hoping that the turbo aint junk. i litterally just put it on the car and didnt get any miles on it and replaced the lifters which is what i thought the problem was because the knock was really inconsistant so i thought it was lifter tick till i was tryn to get oil pressure to them and put a rod through the block. the turbo was on the car for a total of about 4 minutes of idle time with like 30 sec or so at 2500 i think it was. i know i have to keep it under load aside from letting it warm up to opperating temp which i gotta have it up around 2k or so maybe a little higher. i was just wondering about boost. so aside from keeping it under load and changing the oil a shit ton what else do you guys suggest? also wanted to know if i eliminate the bs but leave the oil squirters in would that help with the high oil pressure problem that most ppl get when they eliminate the squirters?
