2.3L High Rev Turbo Recommendation??

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

If he wants to rev to 8500-9000 he needs to look at something other than a bolt on housing. The FP housings are better then all the others but the others like the SCM6152 the exhaust housing is too small to keep up flow that high, it will start choking. I have heard that the FP turbos have a bigger housing so I would say of you are dead set on running a bolt on housing and revving high the FP line will be the only thing that might get you close to where you want to go.

My redline is 8250 on mine, only because i think the rev-hard mani os choking me up top. I make peak power around 7-7400 (500whp) and am making 480whp at 8k (pump gas). Th ebolt ons will not flow well wnough to rev to 8-9k. I run the .68 t4.

I am right there with you brother... this is what I told him earlier...

Thats hella tight. I bet your FP1's, stock intake manifold and 16g serve you well up there. Oh wait, looking at your dyno sheet you peek power is at 5500 rpms..........no matter 10,500 rpms is hella tight!

I dont think you know, but I am sure Tom was talking about a differant setup... He just made 600awhp on pump and meth and that was because they had to cut it short... 600awhp was obiously not on a 16G...

While thats interesting, and I mean congratulations, that is ckufing awesome, still shouldn't need 10.5k to get there. with a 2 liter torque freaks maxed out a gt35r @ 9k making like 640 whp. But who knows, maybe a quick jog through first is hard to moniter revs with 600whp.

Upon initial investigation, information at hand suggested poser but my apologies to tom if thats not in fact who he is. Maybe one day I could be as fortunate.

Thank you for this post. People keep telling me he wont beable to rev up to 8000rpm with the eagle rods.

Do these people even have strokers???

I rev my eagles in my stroker all the time to 8K and above. No problems, and over 30K miles on it since sept 2005.

He was looking at maybe the pte 6152e. How well does this compare to the fp3575??

I was only able to do 500whp @ 26psi with the 6152SP with the mitsu flange. It was super choked off after 26psi, and yielded no substantial increase in power past 26psi on the dyno. As you know, my motor is a 1999 7-bolt 2.3L "butcher" w/ ross pistons, and eagle rods, with a stock port 1G head and 272's. Personally, it would be worth a call to FP. I was hearing rumors in the shadows that he was looking at making a mitsu flanged GT40R setup -- do not quote me -- rumors only. Call for facts.

For bolt-on's though, the FP3575 has done 608whp/465tq on 36-37psi @ AMS dyno on Albert Raczynski's '95 Tsi AWD. He has since gone onto a much better setup, and is definitely not looking back. Good luck Albert with the 2007 year! :thumb:

Also, sorry Jay for not catching the "mitsu-flange" portion of your first post.

I hope that this tidbit of info helps him towards a decision, or opens his eyes to the necessity to remove the mitsu flange from the equation and go T4.

The car makes all its power from 6-10k rpms.
The BC280 cams I was using are a pure top end cam.
They make no low end, minimal mid ranrange and a ton of topend.
Most of my runs were I have gone up into the 10k rpm range was not intentional.
I shift by feel and it still felt good there.
It actualy goes from 7-10k so fast that its hard to shift before 10k.
Its very hard consistantly shifting a tranny around 10k so I would try to shift earlier and just about every time I would go back and look at a log and it would be in the high 9k or just over 10k.

On the dyno I never pulled it past 8700rpms. Was going to start pulling as high as I needed for peak power once the tune was perfect. You have to be carefull when using pump gas and meth injection. never got to see exactly where the power starts to fall. Timing belt jumped when the esentric pulley bolt came loose. On that last run it made 597hp at 8k. On previous runs the hp was still climbing at 8700rpms. So I dont know how much peak power it was really making or where the power starts to fall. But by feel it pulls like crazy from 6-10k.

I need to update my car profile. That one is real old.
I have a 10:1 motor now.

I am not sure what that last sentence about a poser means.

HE IS BROKE. Building a 2.3L, Ported Head, Race Tranny, Quartermaster clutch, dsmlink, FP3575/wg/o2 gets kind of expensive. He has cut it close and is looking for something that will bolt up.

Then he should get a journal bearing turbo (save money) and a cheap T3 manifold that he can replace later down the line. Otherwise he will end up replacing both eventually if he's serious about 650Whp.

Yes we found a good deal for the turbo, mani, WG and o2. FP built the turbo for guys hitting 600whp on the smaller turbo. They said it should be fine for over 600whp even on the cast mitsu mani.
