2.3 stroker head build

I am in the same boat, working on building my 2.3 right now.

I recently contacted GSC about a specific set of cams made for the evo4-8, Stroker R2. I was curious if they would make them for the evo1-3 platform, to my disappointment they said that they did not have plans to in the future, or could make the for the evo1-3 for me. here are the cams:

They seem perfect for our application. High lift is what I been aiming for with the 2.3 head. Now there is a thread on here about using evo cams in our DSM. If this can be done, I am sure these GCS stroker cams can be applied.

Kelford does have a cam set with high lift:

Now those cams need some serious springs. Most of my research shows dual valve springs (supertech) fit the profile for 12.5mm of lift.


I wish I had the coin to do some back to back comparisons of these cams (kelford HL) vs the GSC s2 on an 2.3 build.
 
I would like to know two things here and you can pm me the info if you would like. (slightly off topic)

First is what shops on here offer all these detailed measurements and planning a long block as in quench area and clearances?

Also if you do possess these skills, where did you learn or go to school for them?


Most any upper end shop will provide spec sheets, most upon request.

For the shops that are here on tuners

I would assume, Magnus, JAM, Force Engineering, Myself all offer spec sheets

SIM,Busher and English Bros. IDK if they do or not.

You will find that most older machinist, have some sort of background with the SBC, domestic V8 and either some level of involvement in circle track or drag racing.

The skill set learned there is just carried over into the import engine.

It just become a level of detail you do.

There are schools through out the country that can teach you "High performance engine building" Most are a 2 year program.
 
Holy crap those cams are crazy. I like those. And i have called GSC before those cams even came out. STM also called for me to ask. I didn't like the idea of using a different cam for a different car.

I am not to sure on a turbo choice to go with on my build but i think i am going to go with a FP Black. Any suggestions on other turbos? :thumb: Thanks

Have you considered a HX40? Cheap power for sure man.
 
Yea i have and i want a stock bolt up turbo with no problems or any modifies. So that's why i am going with a FP black.

Also i have been looking at my rocker arms and they look worn out. So i want to know is there any better EVO rocker arms i can use with this build?
 
Im going to get the stuff for my head soon and im just going threw my list. I am still shooting for a goal of 450-500. Let Me know if i can be better somewhere on the build. Thanks for reading.

ARP head studs(just the cheaper ones)
Valve cover gasket
 
Are you or have you had the block decked for the MLS HG? If no, you may want to rethink that choice.

What valves are you going to run?
 
Needing some last minute help on upgrading valvs or not? I don't know if stock vavles will hold up on this hp or not so should i upgrade?
 
Stock size valves will support your goal just fine. I went ahead and did 1mm over for my 2.3 since I was already doing new valves and guides. Little more machine work involved to do it but I like doing things once whenever possible.
 
Ok cool. i am inspecting the head make sure its all good. I ran into a part in the corner that looks welsed. i don't know if i should use the head now any advice or help? I am stuck now i have pictures also.
