i just bought a 92 talon, 150,xxx miles on it. as far as i know its still stock. i have heard there's been head and/or cam work done to it. 'im not sure if they were just broken or upgraded internals or not.
however, i'm looking for a reliable yet affordable inter-cooler set and a blow off. and i'm having problems finding 1st gen sets.
any help would be greatly appreciated

yeah those are some killer deals compared to the ones ive been finding! only thing im worried about is why its so cheep!

Eh the stock is a good intercooler but you could do a supra side mount upgrade but some ebay cheap knock off front mounts will do the trick, a 14b really dont need much. i say keep the money and put it towards something more along the lines of fuel and tuning mods, you can push the stock stuff pretty far.

I have the VRSF with my stock turbo (14b) and it is everything I hoped it would be. Great bang for your buck if you are heat soaking the stocker. Here is a tech article I wrote on the install and a review on it which will also give you more info on what is involved install it. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/386137-1g-vrsf-fmic-install.html. As far as a stock 1g BOV check the classifieds or contact Gary from Mitsubishi Graveyard.

if you decide on an ebay kit please for the love of god get the bov thats included and throw it into the nearest lake. the stock one you got now is WAY more then enough. i would crush it and thats all. but if your just looking for something not stock get the ngr type s

good call man! actually i just ordered a 255lph fuel pump for it

Cool, now if i were you i would be looking for a 2g maf and some 550cc injectors with a adjustable fuel pressure regulator. needs to be a 1:1 rising and aeromotive is the best. im just sayin alot more power can come from these rather than just the look and very minimal increase a intercooler will give.

What are your goals for the car? If you only plan on running the stock turbo a supra sidemount would be great for you. If you plan on going big later on though I'd consider going with a large intercooler or maybe looking into a water/air intercooler.

i just want to give it an extra kick, and the sound of a blow off is music to my ears. a new turbo comes in the future for sure. this talon is going to end up as my toy

and you mean 2nd gen mas air flow sencser?

and yeah, ive heard the cheap blow offs are garbage hahah thanks guys this info is much appriciated

A FMIC shouldn't give you much of a "kick" unless your stock intercooler is dirty and clogged (which it probably is). If it is its much cheaper just to clean it out. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/293747-1g-stock-intercooler-removal-cleaning.html and http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/16290-intercooler-cleaning-ic-merged-11-7-clean-smic-fmic.html.

An intercooler's job is just to cool the intake charge and a FMIC is only needed when the stock intercooler can no longer handle the the amount of boost and begins to heat soak.

I hate to burst your bubble but even if you get an aftermarket BOV, you should still recirculate it unless you have a GM MAS in blow through with a MAFT Translator OR are running Speed Density (DSMlink or similar, IAT sensor, and a MAP sensor. Otherwise you are blowing metered air into the atmosphere and will cause your car to run rich after shifts. This will hurt your performance and can cause other problems as well. The stock BOV is actually a very solid unit, even the Nissan Skylines and the new GTR come from the factory with the same 1g Mitsubishi BOVs (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/hangout/408017-1g-bov-comes-stock-nissan-gtr.html and and http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/hangout/287901-nissan-r35-bov-merged-8-8-a.html. I didn't need to replace mine until I was running over 20 lbs of boost. If you are going to do it, do it right.

Also the turbo should be one of the last things you upgrade. The stock turbo, the 14b, is a very capable turbo which has been 10's and 11's in the 1/4 mile on a few cases, 12's and 13's commonly, and 14's and 15's near stock. It spools lightening fast, holds boost pretty good (especially with a 7cm housing), and makes pretty good power. I have beaten many a DSM with larger turbos then me because they lack the supporting mods to reap the results from a larger turbo. Before you will see gains from a larger turbo you will need to upgrade your flow (intake and exhaust), fuel system (pump, injectors, regulator), and ECU (logger and tuner) at a minimum.

So take a gander though the upgrade paths and formulate a plan based on your goals and budget. It will net you the best results if done in the proper order. Adding a FMIC for looks, a BOV for noise, and a turbo expecting to go fast will just give you a car that runs like crap and won't last very long.

Hope this helps!

I agree completely with 9!'clipseDOHC. Upgrading your intercooler probably isn't the first modification I would do. I ran a 12.47 on the 14b and stock smic and others have taken it into the 11's. It's definately a worthwhile modification but there are other things that I would perform first. To start with check over the upgrade path that was posted, start out with the routine maintenace such as the timing belt, boost leak test, spark plugs (NGK coppers, bpr6es or bpr7es depending on desired boost levels), wires, etc.

Once you have the car running tip-top I'd start out with the modifications.

good call guys, this is my first boosted car, can i have learn a lot just from last night becoming a member. thanks for all the feed back :D

Agree with other that you can do other mods before this guy but to answer the question on what is the best intercooler then you would want to find somebody who makes them with a garrett core. The ebay cores are somewhat decent but they heatsoak. I run an ebay core on my 430awhp evo and it holds up but it wouldn't be my first choice. They get pretty pricey though around $700-$800 for a really nice core. Colder air means more power even on a stock vehicle but you will have to have a way to adjust boost after the pressure drop. Also F&F did brain wash us into liking the BOV sound but a mac car will run like crap if you don't recirculate it. Best valve to date is a synapse.

Pure opinion. Best price for budget would be crushed 1G, most people with money would agree that TIAL can hold large amounts of boost the best and same with HKS

Not opinion as I have owned and tested many. HKS is a dinosaur in technology at this point. Tial is an incredible valve but it doesn't do well on small turbos or stock MAF cars even with the new recirc version. Also synapse valves can hold up to 100psi and have been tested for it. That and its unmatched drivability make it one incredible valve. Test one out for yourself.
