hi, i cant seen to find a thread on this and im sure im putting this in the wrong area, but it wont let me post this anyplace else. so if this needs to be moved, sorry mods.

but awhile back i saw a manifold to put the stock evo 8 turbo on a 1st or 2nd gen and was wondering if that was out on the market. if so can anyone point me in the right direction to purchase it or if someone has one they want to sell just let me know.

or even if anyone has done this can give me any info, like numbers and pics of how it looks.

The only manifold I see looks pretty pricey for results that have been achieved off simple direct bolt on turbos with these cars for years. Last I checked, I didn't say it couldn't be done.

I mostly agree with this. That is an expensive manifold to buy to bolt up a stock part from another car. If someone started producing an affordable cast manifold, like the FP Race manifold, that would make an evo VIII or IX turbo bolt up like this, a lot more people would become interested in running it I think. I would use it then. But like Spawned said, there are perfectly good alternative options that are going to not involve buying an $800 manifold, to get similar results.

The power and goals you can get out of a stock Evo turbo and a very expensive manifold, could have been achieved for less on a traditional setup.

Tell me the difference between the guy running this Evo setup pushing an 11.5 and a 20G pushing an 11.5? Other than technical specifications and numbers, they both did the same damn thing in the end, one cost half the price.

what if i was looking to be cost efficent in the future and have a better street car? who are you to say what i should and should not do. just selling a 600hp evo and having 10sec timeslips on a 37r, only 1 sec faster than an fpgreen, maybe i think this is a better setup for what i want.

No, it's not, and that's where you're getting it all wrong.

The difference will be UNDER THE CURVE, which is the entire point.

This set-up is pointlessly expensive for the ultimate HP numbers you could get, but for someone doing autocross for example, an Evo9 twin scroll will flow more and spool faster than an Evo3. That's what matters.

It all depends on the situation.

well, me being the op. i know what the goals are that i want. i didnt tell them because i was just asking about a manifold i knew i saw and im interested.

here is where i stand right now. i but the manifold and o2 and it cost around 1400 shipped and all. have the turbo already.put it all in and find i want to go faster, ok. i send the turbo to fp and have it upgraded. cost 2000 for a black, which is a 35r that spools super fast, and is great on the street. in the end im in just over 3k for a turbo kit that is all new stuff and good for over 600hp with supporting mods that i already have as well. that doesnt sound too bad to me. and having use these turbos and the way they are on the steet doesnt compare to the t3 or t4 turbos at all. they really still spool close to stock.

the situation is, its a street car so quick spool and good tq are what im looking for. so yes, more of an autocross car would be an example

this isnt going on the gst, i have 3 dsm's in all. and i have an hyundai genesis coupe r-spec too. this set up is going on one of the 2 awd talons i have.

+1 on stupid idea, considering you could put that money to buy many more things to make more power. But if you have the turbo laying around, fab a new manifold. And send the turbo out.

Also, i wouldnt touch that manifold with a 10 foot pole..being a pipefitter and all, those welds look like they were done by a blind two year old. I bet the ebay welds look better than that.

No one said you can't do it, which I think is surprising forthe newbie forum, but some of us are saying the cost to benefit isn't that great. I would be more for something like a person trying to fab MIVEC into our cars.

i know you didnt say i cant do it, but you are hitting at it being the worst thing in the world you think i can do.

you may think that cost to benefit isnt great, but what if i do. its all a preference.

for example, your MIVEC thery, you like it. but i dont, im aware of how hard it is to tune the car and some of the problem that happened, but for autocross the MIVEC did perform well. but the amount of time and labor and headachs that their would be, i dont think its worth it

but anyway, like i said, this is just stuff i want to play with and see where it goes. you never know till you actually try it. and i have alot of the stuff.

but just so you know, im the kind of person that if i did have an extra evo 9 engine, i wouldve tried to put it in already. LOL.

The difference and benefit is, power under the curve. Having torque down low where you need it, is something you must not understand. But, this is coming from a guy who has been playing with v8s that run 8s all day on the street, with full interior and on pump.

I hate to break it to you but, the OP says he wants a street car and guess what? To have a fast street car you DO NOT want a laggy 20g, or any other turbo that you need to wait for. Its just wasted RPM and time, getting you no where but behind the person next to you.

How would that 20g at 11.5lbs compare to a twin scroll 16g at 11.5lbs? Well, how about we run two identical cars minus the turbos and find out.

Owning a turbo FWD car, if I was going for something killer. I would want a twin scroll. And, I may even go that route with a FP(insert color here). The whole stock turbo look is something that matters to me as well. But, I have an auto and I'm not afraid to play with boost by gear/speed for a form of traction control. For me, having a big fancy turbo that is out of place, just screams race car. Its hard to get races if you don't have a street car.

Why would you not like variable valve timing?! Look at Honda, it just works. Have more power under the curve, and a more street-able setup then when you need it. BAM! Power! Granted Honda does it with the cams and a more aggressive lobe profile but, the concept and result is the same.

On ebay ive seen a dsm-evo flange adapter that are sold for a fairly cheap price. Not sure if it will work right since i havnt seen anyone use it yet. But if i does, that would be a really cheap setup then buying that manifold

That is what it is, an adapter. You will not get the benefits of having a twin scroll housing.
