I am getting ready to build a 2.3 liter stroker kit. I was wondering if there is a difference between a 6 bolt turbo block and a 6 bolt non-turbo block besides the oil squirters holes.
Do the oild squirters make that much of a difference? My setup I am using is: manley rods,wiseco pistons and 2.4 liter crank. any info would be great
 
Only difference is the oil squirters. And they do make a difference. Cool the pistons, help prevent knock. My original engine was a cheapass POS N/T block with a turbo head. Detonated, shattered #1 in three places. With the oil squirters there, that might not have happened.

Some people will tell you not to go for the oil squirters, or to delete them, that the check valves can fail. Which they can. If you use junkyard parts. Change 'em out for fresh and new, no problems, engine will run like it's supposed to, even if you don't have to deal with 91 craptane.
 
Of course there are going to be horror stories about using non turbo blocks, but not all of the problems people have are caused by the absence of oil squirters. There are tons of people that run without them and do just fine. One thing I can tell you is that if you run an aftermarket piston and rod combo, like your going to do, than it will make things a lot stronger and it wont be as necessary to have oil squirters as it would with stock components. Again this is my .02 cents. Good luck with the build. :thumb:
 
most have the hole for the knock sensor already, its just blocked off. if not it can be threaded for the sensor pretty easily. as Cs4G63 said, aftermarket pistons don't need the sqirters, but if you do remove them do a search on a restrictor for the oil feed to the turbo as the oil pressure will be a lot higher and the turbo may not be too happy with the higher oil pressure.

by the way the DSM performance shops don't use the squirters with aftermarket slugs , so decide for yourself if they are needed
 
My info is coming from RRE, and having them build me an engine. They said that it would be a bad idea to run the Wiseco/Eagle piston/rod combo I'm using now without the squirters. So no, 'DSM performance shops' seem to recommend that you keep them.
 
some shops keep them others say you don't. soem shops won't touch the 7bolt some do. it all depends on what you want to do. I've seen success and failure in both situations. its a hard decision and hard question to ask as you'll get people from both sides. I've kept mine, but i had a turbo block, in your situation i'd just skip them with forged pistons
