Resolved 1G Is this shaft all the way in?

Noticed a new puddle of fluid under my car today. Looks like its coming from the rear right shaft where it enters the rear diff.
Trying to figure out if my seal failed or this shaft popped out?
The shaft wont move in/out if I grab it and give it a jiggle.
Did a pretty hard launch for the first time. I assume this is what triggered this leak to start.

The other does look more inserted but the other side is not an OEM shaft so might be made different.
Also no sure if there is a difference just because its two different sides of the diff.
Ill probably just order a seal and replace it and at the same time try and shove the shaft in further.
 
Doesn't look all the way in to me. You have to give the end of the shaft a good wack (hammer against piece of wood) to get the inner circlip to go in.
If thats the case I wonder why it popped out in the first place :idontknow:
Or maybe its been out or not seated all the way this whole time and a good launching pushed it out enough to leak.
Ill see if I can pop it in this weekend and report back. New seal should be here in a week also.
 
That’s not all the way in. The flange would be if not flush close to it covering the seal. Install it again and if it happens another time replace the c-clip then axle.
Also check the spline and teeth for damage while it’s out.

Hopefully nothing is damaged. I didnt hear anything skipping teeth or getting destroyed. Just happened to see the puddle underneath.

I did that a long time ago. Hard launch combined with a lane change in stop and go traffic pulled one axle out of the rear diff. Felt like I had fried the clutch but it was the VCU trying to transfer power to the wheels still connected from the one that wasn't anymore.

Since it was still under warranty it went back to the dealer, the sales rep and service manager were impressed. They had never seen that before. :)
 
Update on this.
The shaft was in fact not all the way in. I removed it and inspected. Did not find anything wrong.
Popped it back in and went for a drive. So far so good.
Its quite possible that it was not set in properly since I bought the car. I will keep an eye on it none the less.

As a side note, when replacing our front CV's, I look at the circlip. If the replacement CV's circlip has squared edges, not rounded, I swap the circlips and use the rounded edge one. They are easier to get the shaft back out with the rounded circlips, as opposed to the square edged ones.
