Resolved 1G I forgot what this bracket is for (throttle body stay)

It's been a while since I tore my 90 TSI apart and now I can't remember where this goes. I used a cable tie to keep the nut and washer with it but I just don't remember. Is it brakes, suspension, driveline, or engine? Also, I pinched through the rubber boots on my ball joints, I should probably buy some new ones? Thanks. -Tom

its for the motor hoist it goes on the exhaust manifold near the power steering.

Thats a engine puller. Its goes between the head and the intake manifold.

In CAPS it's call a throttle body stay.

Agree. I just took mine off the other day to remove my throttle body to replace the leaking shaft seals. The single hole end bolts to the left mounting stud for the CAS and the double hole end bolts to the right side bolts of the throttle body.

I had my TB off the other day to replace my tps and that bolts to the front of the TB and to the back stud of the CAS

Ok that's why it was so hard to hoist the engine the second time around! Thanks to everyone who replied to my Q. I'm going to bolt it on the engine and hope that I never have to use it although I have a lead foot so the chances are good... Wow this is a busy site, that's great.

I don't think so. I just have no nice way to pull the engine so I'm going to see if that bracket will help. The other 2 engines I've helped drop in recently we just wrapped chains around them, but we didn't like that, especially around the valve cover.

It goes on the throttle body, there was just a thread a bit ago on it, but its a throttle body bracket.

So i just put my throttle body and elbow back on my intake manifold.
I used the gaskets that came with my gasket kit, but now the two studs that hold the
throttle body and elbow on are too long.. the threads arent long enough to allow the nuts and lock washers to contact with the elbow and hold the assembly to the intake manifold.

Did i miss something that goes on with the TB and elbow? WTF

i know the stock gaskets are thicker but i dont think that make too much of a difference..

There is a cast iron bracket that goes from the TB to the cas. I usually just toss it in the trash, Pull the studs out of the manifold and get appropriate length bolts

is this necessary for other than pulling the motor? the manifold has a bracket underneath it, is this enough bracing?

One thing that also seems to go missing when people pull the stay is the ground strap for the throttle body needed to make sure the IPS works. Since it's too long once the stay is removed people forget to put it on.
