1G 1g DSM electrical stopped working...

So i tried wiring in a stereo and stupid me didn't disconnect the battery so i think i fried something because now none of my gauges work, my heater blower doesn't work my defrost don't work and windows don't work.....and also my battery is drained and when i take the jumper cables off the car dies shortly after. autozone said my alternator was good my fuse is good used my buddies good alt relay and still nothing...

i changed every single small fuse under hood and dash with all good connected/working fuses...check all battery fuses and alternator fuses...

idk what to do now i pulled the gauge clusters out i taped off all exposes radio wires so they dont ground out

Did you replace the 80amp fuse in the fuse box in the engine bay?

You might have blown a fuseable link. Check your battery voltage when the car is running if it is not over 12 then you may have lost that link.

Yeah i replaced the ALT 80amp fuse about a month ago and is still in good condition

just put a voltmeter to the positive and and negative terminals and see if it reads 12?

Had similar issue, just not as bad. Blew out something where backlights for the instrument panel did not work, had to ground one of the wires for the radio so the lights would work again. As far as everything else going out, i'm confused too since the windows and the blower are on completly different circuits. All i can say is check the fusable links (look like big fuses) if you have not done so yet and start checking other things like relays. Go from simple to complex.

Edit: to check the battery, put one lead to positive, one lead to negative (or any bare metal on the car, really), like you said.

alright think it could be that i need to ground a radio wire because i disconnected all of the wires from the stereo plug the guy before made a mess of the harness...

and for the fusible links those are the fuses that have clear plastic on top of them right? ### if so i checked all those on the positive terminal and fuse box and they are all fine

Yep, those are them!
If i am not mistaken, wire i had to ground was black with yellow stripe (one for radio's backlight). DO double-check the wire color code. The dashboard was not dimmable after that but at least it lit up. Now that the car is gutted, i am going through the wiring and trying to find out exactly what messed up since the dimmer switch was fine and everything else worked.

The fuseable links are usually just a piece of metal no plastic. They can be a small spot in a larger wire but I Dont believe that ours are that way.

Kokomoguy30, our "fusable links" are basically fuses on two-three fuse panels (depending on model). Really don't see why they did not use regular fuses instead.
