My speedometer still works, but everything else in my dashboard is dead. Lights still work, car drives fine. It started when I couldn't roll up my passenger window, and I realized it was because I had the window lock button on..:ohdamn: (to be fair, what other car in the world does that also kill the driver's control?!?). I went digging around in the fuse box assuming that fuse had blown. Obviously it hadn't. So then the gauges would sometimes die, and I could never find the exact problem, but after jiggling things around down there, they'd start working.

This continued for a while, but now jiggling doesn't fix it. I went back out to make sure everything was stuck together nice and tight, it all is as far as I can tell. Obviously that's not true though. Where exactly should I look for the problem? Is there a fuse or wiring plug I need to pay special attention to?

Thanks so much for the help.

Sounds like a mess, from indy, im a hoosier, but onto the topics, check wiring in doors, and under dash, all fuses, could be a number of things, maybe a realy is bad,i wired my tsi before, everything check all fuses, and get back with us.

Damn, I'm really not in a position to be digging all around my entire cabin electrical system. I'm without any kind of garage, it's cold as balls, and I don't even have any legit tools to be tearing open my car.

I know that's a bit of a lazy response, but I'm in no position to be doing a full troubleshoot of this myself LOL. I do appreciate your help though, but if it's this big of an ordeal, it'll have to wait till I make a trip home one weekend.

Does anyone have any more pointed advice? if I know exactly what I'm looking for, I'd love to go in and fix it quick.

well it sounds like it might possibly be a wiring issue, but mine also did this and it just ended up me having to pull the instrument cluster out and replacing the factory oil pressure gauge it ended up that the coils behind it got fried somehow. all in all it was just the gauge. so it might just be worth it to get a gauge you know works and replace it.

BTW its really easy to pull out the cluster, all you need is a Phillips and a very small like #1 Phillips for the gauges. just undo the 4 screws that hold the outer cover around the cluster disconnect the plugs for the bottons(remembering which is which but i don't think you can mix them up in the first place) pull it off then i think there might be more screws or bolts i can't recall, make sure to look but after all that i believe the cluster should pull out. its pretty self explanatory to get it out though.

Remember
just go slow and take your time you don't want to cause any more problems or lose screws or bolts :/
DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY!!!

Thanks a lot, I'll do that when I get out to it. I'm hoping it's some external wiring cause all the gauges died at once, it's hopefully something simple. I suppose I'll give it another once-over before I tear everything open.

Thanks everyone for the help.
