So I have a few more questions for you all regarding my '90 GSX. The previous owner has EPROM tuned it and I have little to no info on the source of the tuner. Awaiting a response from him.

1) Assuming this is true, and I want to return to stock ECU to tune with DSMLink, etc does anyone know of a source for the original EPROM?

2) I've read many threads regarding the 90 vs 91+ ECU and besides the tach not working they appear to be plug and play. So what's the advantage to the 90+?

3) How do I identify a '90 ECU from a '91+ if I decide to buy one of the forum or eBay how do I know what I'm getting?

Sounds like you need to do some more research on ECU's, heres a few links you should bookmark...

  1. This question makes no sense. You need a 1g ECU to run DSMLink, it being an EPROM unit or not doesn't matter since the boys at ECMTuning can convert any ECU into an EPROM unit.
  2. They aren't plug and play, read this ---> '91-'94 ECU swap int a '90

Gofer, I agree.

Question 1 is in regards to an aftermarket EPROM in the ECU. Not sure what it is and how it will, or will not, work with DSMLink. I'd prefer to go back to a stock 'known' condition. I have the ECU, I'm looking for a source for a stock GSX EPROM to put in it.

Your response to question 3 is very clear but I know what the difference between a EPROM and Non-EPROM ECU looks like on the inside. What I'm trying to track down is the PN for a proper '90 GSX ECU as mine is not legible.

Thanks for the bandwidth

-MD145903 is a '90 M/T AWD Federal ECU
-MD128625 is a '90 M/T FWD Federal ECU
Either will work but the only ones that came EPROM were the MD145903 AWD ECU's, and even then not ALL of them were EPROM's.

I've seen EPROM Version of both that's why I have the Software version listed under each Eclipse Talon Laser Galant 3000GT Stealth ECU ID Reference The factory software for a MD145903 is E742 and for a MD128625 E705A.

DSMLink replaces any factory or aftermarket EPROM chip.

You can tell 90 ECUs by the three vertical hybrid ICs on the board where the 91+ ECU only has two.
