Well I picked up 740 about two months ago and have been stocking up parts for it left and right. The car has been sitting for over ten years and all it needed was an engine. This really disgusts me but I am thankful that I ended up with it. :) The po had the belt replaced by some backwoods idiot that did not do something right with the install and it threw the timing belt. Everyone here knows what this can lead to and it was the worst case scenario for 740 and it took out the #1 piston on its way. The car was taken back to the mechanic who kept putting it off and had it in his possession for ten years! The po finally reacquired the car and posted it here on Tuners in the mid atlantic region for sale for 500 dollars. Needless to say it didn't last long and I went to look/purchase it in two hours.

Enough with the background and onto the pictures!

Block is at the machine shop, I go and pick that up tomorrow and start putting it together. Also I have a ton of stuff getting powder coated at the moment too.

Good lookin gvr4. Hold on to it I hear they are getting harder to find and will start going up in value alot :hellyeah:

Oh man! You got it for a steal, nice! Deff following this revival!

Got the old engine and trans out of the car today. Also pulled the oil pump and found that my 90 pump with the straight gears seems to be in better condition than the helical gears in the gvr4 pump. I can see a lot more wear on the pump housing on the gvr4 unit and some but not as bad on the 90 housing. Decisions, decisions. The car has doubled as a parts bin also :coy: , and we had to push it out to clean a massive spill that spewed out the turbo drain hole when pulling the engine with the lean it had. :ohdamn:

Iv'e thought about it, and mostly likely will have a small 16g that is laying around converted to a billet 20g with a 8cm ex housing.

Got a few things done the past two days. Went ahead and put the non abs lines and proportioning valve in, along with a full stainless steel clutch line. Also got the pan, oil pump, balance shaft delete and rear seal in place. Then I put my act 2600 pp and South Bend feramic/ceramic clutch disk on and got the transmission bolted up to the motor.

This is where I left off, still have to put on the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo, cam gears, timing belt and get the new tank up in the car (still haven't got a bunch of stuff back from the powder coaters). Disregard the haggard installation vc.

Got a ton of work done the past few days, ran into my first real problem though. I ran the pump through ecmlink to set my base fuel pressure and notice that I had not one but two fuel leaks! First leak was a drip where the rubber fill hose connects to the tank has dry rotted and cracked and the other is a pin hole right where the fuel line connects at the sending unit.I think I am just gonna drill it out and run a bulk head fitting in its place? Other than that the car is pretty much done now with the exception of bleeding the brakes, clutch and putting the hood back on.

Love GVR4's

Looks good so far, keep it up.

BTW, how's the interior?

Thanks guys, J_HEATH the interior is in actually very good shape for its age. I got the fuel leaks sorted out and set the base fuel pressure then went to start it up (previously primed obviously) and some thing wasn't right immediately. The car was missing and backfiring, uh oh I instantly thought the timing was off! This in fact is impossible since I have long forgotten how many 4g's I have timed up in the past due to the amount of times I did it and correctly every time. So I checked and confirmed that it was right. So I at least let the car come to temps with the miss and drained the start up oil and replaced with Mobil Delvac oil and a new wix filter for the next 500 miles. So after that I couldn't for the life of me get the car restarted!

At this point I was losing patience really quickly when I glanced over and seen the OEM plug wires that came off the car in a neat pile of stuff that came off of it originally. So I pulled the ebay wires off and noticed that the contacts were not going into the coils all the way! So I installed the old wires and voila it purred like a kitten! Went through ecmlink and triple checked all my settings and changed the timing and fuel maps over to evo 8 maps, took it down the road for a proper ring seating session and she drove amazing.

Drove her to and from work also and she rode amazing like it was never down for any amount of time. Other than the abs light being on (the abs ecu is still plugged up) everything still worked fine. Hopefully I will get a video of it running in the next week or so.

Awesome build and it's nice to see another KG GVR4 on the road!
