16g with stock SMIC

At what point should I upgrade my SMIC to a bigger one, or to a FMIC? In the next few weeks I'll be getting my car home and the motor has been pretty well worked, with exhaust, but the fuel system hasn't been touched yet and it will have a s16g. When I get my injectors and AFC ready to go and tuned, I'm looking at running somehwere between 15 and 18 lbs when it's safe. Hopefully by sometime next summer I'll have the funding to upgrade my intercooler anyway, but while I still have the side mount, what's a good safe boost to be looking at.

at 18psi you will most likely experience heat soak, you can find a supra side mount for cheap.

Once I get my Big 16g installed, I'd like to be able to run 14psi daily on my stock SMIC. Heatsoak isnt my friend

im in the same boat... Hopefully when my b16g is installed i will be running 14-15 psi. I dont wanna go farther intill i at least upgrade my side mount.

I had a big16g at 18psi, it was fine for putting around, but anything more then 2 back to back runs and your SOL. You could really feel the power drop off in the higher rpms from heatsoak.

if you really wanted to stay cheap you could rig up and ic sprayer (co2 or water)but i still dont think that will keep you from heat soaking it will help a little tho, i still think a supra side mount will work good for your set up

I was running a stock sidemount with my Big16G. I could run about 18psi as well. With the supra sidemount I am running 20psi. I can make back to back runs at the strip and the upper intercooler pipe is cool.

I hope you plan to upgrade the fuel pump before the afc and injectors. The smic should be good until you have the funds to upgrade though I would turn down the boost in thoses hot summer days if you plan to run it hard.

thanks a lot guys, forgot to mention I'm puttin in a 190lph walboro as one of my first mods. What are some good fmic's that don't cost an arm and a leg? I know the supra side mount is a common upgrade, but, forgive me for sayin this, a front mount looks awesome. Originally I was gonna try to leave my car as stock appearing as possible, but I love the look of a small fmic tucked into the bumper. What kind of boost are srt and evo guys runnin on their stock intercoolers? I'm prepared to tackle making my own pipes, so really all I'm looking for is the intercooler.

a front mount is a good idea, i dont know to much about the srt intercoolers but i have heard the evo8's stock intercooler can only handle around 300 hp, not sure tho, you could find a used fmic on the classifieds probably.
