Can someone point me in the right direction on this swap? My wife and I have her dream car, a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS.
The engine in the 99 blew up and has a massive hole in the block. Instead of buying a crate engine, we found a 2002 Eclipse GS for $650 for the whole car. We want to take the engine from the 02 and put it in the 99, but the engine mounts and transmission are on the opposite sides in each car.
What all do we need to do in order to "flip" the engine bay in the 99 to accommodate the flip-flopped engine/trans setup from the 02? My first thought was cutting and welding the engine mount brackets to the opposite side, but I'm not sure if there's an easier way that I'm missing here.

The frame rail would need cut and replaced as well, it would be reverse if the guys that have done it to a 420a car (only 2 documented) and require a whole 420a car for a donor to make it work, 100% not worth the effort and time. Your better bet is to track down a 4g64 from another 2g Spyder or a 94-98 Galant opposed to essentially cutting the whole front clip off of the car. Shoot you could use a turbocharged 4g63 a lot easier and cheaper at that point.

I don't see anything to clarify if you are talking about a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with a 420A or a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder. Assuming your talking about a 2GNT car not only will you have to largely fabricate the hardware from the firewall forward but you'll also have to rewire the engine bay and get another ECU.

If you're not careful you could wind up with two scrap cars.

Could we potentially just swap the subframe and sway bar?
No. Thus is a large fabrication job. They are two completely different engines from different manufacturers. The swap is not bolt in and cannot be made to do so. It's a cut and weld fabricate job with a ton of other support needed. The most common suggestion is get another engine or another car.
