I want those wheels from that first ad really bad! Like these, only in chrome or aluminum... One day, seeing they cost like $250 per wheel.

(This is an archer racing car btw)

I talked with a guy last week who worked for DSM in the early stages, he was one of the guys who took the Pre Production cars to Auto Shows across the country showing it off...how BADASS is that! he was saying it was one of the most fun cars he has driven to date doing what he does, and got ALOT of attention driving it around on the road on his off time (Sneeking it out of course, LOL)

I think we would all line up for a job like that:hellyeah:

Great minds think alike LOL

I'll have to scan this one in when I get a chance. Its the LA Auto show handout-Jan. 88'. It has a great high quality shot of the front. The detail is great to see.

:aha:

That's another killer piece right there Jose....again, this thread RULES:thumb:

I'll try to scan it all this weekend :thumb:

Awesome!

Unfortunately....the WELD Evo wheels have been out of production for years....you will have to find them used. I've searched myself, as I'm really into the Archer Racing stuff, but, no luck so far.

The 2nd photo was just a zoomed up excerpt of the mini-article. I dont recall the magazine name. I will need to look to see if I still have it. Just dates on the back, May 88'.

Here is the rest of the article. The rear end of the car is pretty amazing especially with the dual exhaust flush mounted. My favorite quote from the article,"the excitement aroused by the roadster has inspired Mitsubishi to put a convertible into X2S's production plans for the future."

I might have this one too Jose. I recently unpacked my binders so I could contribute to the thread so I'll look. X2S's lines were sleek.....wonder where these prototype cars are?

And so here's a few more.......the Eclipse die-cast showed up the other day so I figure some shots were in order....I also included some early Turbo Magazine ads that are DSM relative, some Archer Racing patches I have, and a color shot of the 1G Archer Talons-SCCA championship cars from seasons '89-'93 - From left to right: 1989 Season AWD Turbo - 1990 Season FWD Turbo - 1991 Season FWD N/A - 1992 FWD N/A - 1993 FWD Turbo.

That diecast is totally cool. I have well over a hundred Ertyl American Muscle 1/18 diecasts.
What are the chances I could find an Eclipse diecast?

According to Wikipedia: The Plymouth X2S is currently being stored at the DaimlerChrysler Detroit Office Warehouse. It has been seen stored outside, in an L-shaped area on the south side of the building.

That 1g model is incredible. I had no idea that was ever even made. Good find! If you ever see another one for sale send me a pm! In regards to your pm, I'll have to recan then at a higher quality first :thumb:

I guess a phone call to that warehouse is in order....if that's true, then, roadtrip! Good find!

I have those ads as well. The Archer ad is one of my all time favorites....totally killer! And, Garth Ulloms Paul Rossi car is killer as well. Great ads......hopefully I'll have some that won't be posted by the time I can make it happen....LOL! Saving me some work....hehe...

A quick search just brought this up:

May as well toss this link up too:

Some of the info on these links is unfortunately not true. First case in point is the Gullwing Eclipse. I have seen so many stories written on US Forums about these rare birds and not one has come close to the truth. So I decided to take the time to write it out for all my DSM family.

The Gullwing Eclipse in Japanese was built as a result of a Police Drama in Japan called "Gorilla-Police Investigation Department Team 8" or just "Gorilla" for short. The show was hugely popular in Japan and has a cult following to this date. The show was sponsored and partly produced in cooperation with Mitsubishi. Hence every car in the show was a Mitsubishi. Yujiro Ishihara the owner/founder of Ishihara Productions wanted the lead actor of the police drama to have a car that would be his signature calling card. So the Gullwing Starion was born. Yujiro was the biggest actor of his day, dubbed "Japan's Elvis." So of course Mitsubishi was more than willing to build the Gullwing Starion. This is the reason there are a some Gullwing Starions floating around in Japan. The show was very popular so Mitsubishi offered the Gullwing Starion to the public as a built to order vehicle. The same scenario took place for the Gullwing Eclispe. 2 built for Ishihara Productions to start testing with. The show was very action heavy so the car was put through its paces. Meanwhile, 10 more gullwings were built per special order. However, the car did not make the cut and was going to be just an alternate and the show got pulled shortly there after. Thats basically it in a nutshell.

A buddies website showcasing alot of the TV series collectibles, to include a gullwing eclipse brochure I gave him in 2002.
Gorilla TV Series Collectibles
His page showing all the main vehicles of the series. Which included a 4G63 Mirage, 4G63 Galant(VR4) and at the bottom the gullwing eclipse to be used in the show. Couple on set photos and some TV show outtakes.
Gorilla Tv Series Cars

Shop maintaing some of the TV show cars to include the Gullwing. At the bottom of the link is a Youtube video showing the garage housing more of the shows cars.
Gorilla TV Series Vehicles

Yujiro Ishihara was so popular there is a memorial hall/museuem built in his honor housing many cars from the show. The site is Japanese, but the pictures of the cars require no tranalation. Enjoy.
Yujiro Ishihara Musuem

On a seperate note I found one at a dealer lot on one of my last visits to Japan. It was originally red, but had been painted black. It was in decent shape. But the dealer was too attached. He had "ASK" listed for the price. But when we got to talking he kept on about the show and how it was the coolest also how big the boom was in Japan at the time. I knew he was not parting with the car. But getting to see the car and play with it was awesome. The doors are not like a typical gullwing. They are automatic. They have a power open and close button. Plus the keyhole to lock and unlock is on the B-pillar.

Yeah, that seemed kinda obvious to me but wanted to post the links more to show that there had been some conversation about it. Those photos are wild! Crazy how the DSM was so popular in Japan. I've got a pic of a 1G from Japan that a friend sent via email, probably from a site. I think the pic is fairly common, but, I love the car. Standby...

Love this! Flares & deep dish rears! I want that front lip spoiler in the worst way!

And from ebay several months back(I was tempted), the aforementioned rarest DSM of all,(according to the wiki link I think)The Fittipaldi Talon. Weird to see the name Fittipaldi next to an Eagle emblem:

Sweet, mind if I edit in your information to correct my mistakes?

"Club DSM" license plate frame back when www.dsm.org was the place to go on the internet, and the Talon Digest was the source of all the latest news. A local guy had them made, I think back in 1995 or 1996. Not sure what happened to him.

Marc Hallman's (yes, the Hallman boost controller) engine bay with a ginormous turbo.

Billet aluminum adjustable fuel pressure regulator adapter. This may be a Buschur Racing piece, but not sure. It belonged to a friend who never installed it. Huge chunk of aluminum, not sure why it had to be so big since the ones today are so much smaller.

Some awesome stuff there Phil. Great shots of the model. I always hoped that on the side of the box where it has the available colors with the boxes next to the name, that one day I would find the white box checked. Just wishful thinking I know. I noticed the Wiki entry on The Plymouth X2S was created fairly recently. I wonder if it is something that is just visible from the street and that is why the person decided to create the article. Maybe we can get one of the members who are in the local area to do some recon and snap a few photos. Super Sport works or worked at the "Plant", he just might be are inside connection

Another quick one for the thread. My original HK$ fuel cut defencer(FCD). I ran this on the car until I went to the MAF-T.

What are the chances I could find an Eclipse diecast?

I hate to say this but the chances are slim......

The first one I saw available was about 3-4 years back on ebay. When the bidding got up into the mid $200 range I stepped away. It was a mistake, but that kind of money for any die-cast car is silly. If it was a red '90 TSi AWD I most likely would have stayed in.

I had been looking constantly since then. I couldn't believe it when I found this one really.....I had searched almost everyday on ebay. When I saw this, I put in a bid immediately. I had told my wife if I saw another one, I would not lose the opportunity a second time. And, it cost me a pretty penny. The interest was huge in it and being that its so rare, I guess I see the value in it now.

Last, the owner who sold it, mentioned to me that they hope they don't regret selling it. I assured them it was going to a good home and to a DSM enthusiast of more than 15 years.

I always do searches on this stuff. I will post a link in this thread if I find one so that some of you that are interested in this piece can get a crack at owning one. I won't say what I paid, but, be prepared to have your wallet wide open:D

I've got a decent amount of American Muscle as well, all MOPAR stuff....go figure!

I remember that frame, and the website, and Todd Day and the Talon Digest.

I have a picture of Hallman's engine bay with that large turbo set-up. If I remember correctly, he was the first to put such a large set up on a DSM. It's a bummer he never got it up to snuff. I think he was relegated to 13 second ETs because of how hard the car was to launch due to boost coming on so late. Hallman's car was always one of my favorite DSMs. The 17" AKT Logic wheels he had made the car.....well, and because he was recognized as the quickest DSM with the stock turbo with a [email protected] waaaay back when. That influenced me to run as fast as I could on it.

Thanks buddy! I'll contribute as much as I can as I'm really psyched at what has been contributed so far, not to mention the variety and rarity of some of these items is incredible. It's great how there is more to see, or that some of us haven't seen, going on 23 or so years after production started.

That FCD is awesome Jose. I never ran one but I remember it was one of the "early" recommendations in the HKS catalog and such. I just did MAF mods and didn't hammer on the car in the cold(dropped boost) because WOW, fuel cut sometimes literally felt like whiplash!!! LOL....then I got an EPROM and had fuel cut eliminated from the mix.

I posted this in my "DSM Drag Racing in Pictures" thread but this is relative here I think: July 4, 1996 EIP Tuning's East Coast Shootout. This is the t-shirt from the event that I had packed away. This was the FIRST Import Drag Race Event on the east coast. This is the event that influenced me to get into DSM's. I do have pics from that event however those are in storage so it'll be a while on those. All the original "Big Guns" were there. More on that later I suppose.....

The second and third shots are of an Eclipse in Europe somewhere? Don't even know where I found these pics.....

Jose! Found this eclipse drawing searching around last night! Pretty cool!

I have this from June 2003. I wish I had a way to scan it without taking the pages apart.

I have something similar to share. This is from the February 2003 issue of Sport Compact Car. This was one of the factors that sold me on DSMs. The magazine fell apart from being looked at too much, so I pulled the pages and put them in a binder. :banghead: Someone wrote on the second to last page.

95talongirl is from the Detroit area, and a great photographer, perhaps she could get some picture of the Plymouth X2S?

I still have my HK$ VPC, complete from the jumper harness, sensor harness, sensors, and the unit!

I found some more brochures and advertisements, I will upload them shortly.

Edit: Just scanned one in... It's basically the same info that was on the last pamphlet I uploaded, but I figured someone might want to see it.

I have this Eagle catalog, also. Not sure if this has already been uploaded or not, but I scanned it anyways. The front cover and back cover are a big poster of a talon.

I also have this very cool "Eagle Talon Enthusiast's Guidebook", a 23 page booklet, complete with a 4 page wide centerfold of a two-tone black/grey 1ga Eagle Talon. That's a lot of pages to scan, so I want to make sure that it hasn't already been uploaded elsewhere before I do so.

Not that I'm really complaining because I'm a big 1g guy, but why don't we have a whole lot about 2g DSMs? Everything in this thread has been first gen...just curious what they would've said about them.

I guess you missed the "Old School" part of the title.

LOL even a '99 is over 10 years old already! Plus I was only born in '91 so I didn't even know what a DSM was yet!

I want those wheels from that first ad really bad! Like these, only in chrome or aluminum... One day, seeing they cost like $250 per wheel.

(This is an archer racing car btw)

Member on here archTSI is Archer's son. Compare his car with the car in the pic.

As far as I know it had extremely low original miles and was tuned on E85. He sold it when the clutch went out and the kid who bought it took it out and totalled it the FIRST day. This wasn't long ago. Such a shame.

Hah, when the clutch was out he let my buddy borrow the wheels which he put on his hunked together piece of a crappy TSi AWD.

Wheels worth more than the car. Which developed a rod knock a week after he traded for it and then was sold to Archer for $100.

Maybe because a lot of the 2g stuff is going to have "Fast and Furious" shit all over it? Like it or not, they went hand in hand for the first few years of the 2g. Gross.

Buschur had those wheels for sale at the shootout the year before last. I saw them on a red 1g at last years shootout.

This was a car that Archer brought to the races as a "show" race car. I have a shot from one of the races of it that I will find and post. I love it. Archer campaigned the 2Gs in '94, '95, and in '96. In 1996 their drivers placed 2nd and 4th in the championship final standings. It was the first year that an Archer Talon DIDN'T win the championship, and the final year they competed in the SCCA with the Eagle Talon.

Some awesome stuff there Phil. Great shots of the model. I always hoped that on the side of the box where it has the available colors with the boxes next to the name, that one day I would find the white box checked. Just wishful thinking I know. The Archer photo and the AutoTechnica Ad are awesome.

Glad you like Jose! And, yes, by all means lets find out what is "real" about the X2S's whereabouts and what is speculation. If this guy could help us out that would be great!

I love this topic.

Btw. Is there somewhere on the internet video of Eclipse 1G assembly in factory?

Does it even exist?

I bet theres something out there somewhere.....with all the cool stuff popping up here....

I'm gonna try tomorrow! I'll let you know if I make any headway......

I remember that article...huge.

Hey, if she can help out that would be awesome!

Wow.....the good ole VPC. When that was the big thing, I stayed away for some reason, but, definitely a big part of early DSM modding.

I found some more brochures and advertisements, I will upload them shortly.

Edit: Just scanned one in... It's basically the same info that was on the last pamphlet I uploaded, but I figured someone might want to see it.

Definitely liking this stuff man...keep it coming....please?:D

Bet I'm the only member with one of these....

Picture 1 = Awesome

Picture 2 = I'm clueless?

Picture 3 = Priceless

I have this Eagle catalog, also. Not sure if this has already been uploaded or not, but I scanned it anyways. The front cover and back cover are a big poster of a talon.

I also have this very cool "Eagle Talon Enthusiast's Guidebook", a 23 page booklet, complete with a 4 page wide centerfold of a two-tone black/grey 1ga Eagle Talon. That's a lot of pages to scan, so I want to make sure that it hasn't already been uploaded elsewhere before I do so.

Some of my favorites of course....cool, a few more I don't have to upload:D

Not that I'm really complaining because I'm a big 1g guy, but why don't we have a whole lot about 2g DSMs? Everything in this thread has been first gen...just curious what they would've said about them.

There's plenty of 2G stuff, however with the thread being so new I think we are all digging back as far as we can to establish the "roots." Honestly, I don't think much about the 2G stuff myself. I'm partial to the 1Gs. I've got some cool 2G stuff nonetheless that I'll be posting at some point.

This is interesting stuff here........I have a pic of the gray Talon from the DSM Shootout in 1998. John Archer(one of the brothers)set up a vendor stand and that car was there. I have one pic only, I'll dig it up. This car was another "show" car to showcase their mods. The car was beautiful, sorry to hear of what happend to it.

I'm a big fan of dark(black, bronze) wheels but I would not have ruined those weld EVOs and painted them black. The polished aluminum made that wheel, but hey, I'm just one opinion.

Love this! Flares & deep dish rears! I want that front lip spoiler in the worst way!
And from ebay several months back(I was tempted), the aforementioned rarest DSM of all(according to the wiki link I think):

I love looking at old pics like those too. Especially cars with interior I am familiar with. All the stuff they added to make it look futuristic. I do have a couple pictures somewhere of a 1G from the late 90's that had a ton of stuff in it to make it a modern day back to the future car. It was at one of our Mitsu Motors Fan meetings in Japan. Same as the Mitsu Owners Day in the states.

Love that Japanese red 1G with the fender flares also. It did belong to one of the registered members in our Eclipse group. The Fit 1G was too cosmetic oriented for me. But the rarity is indeed special.

Sweet, mind if I edit in your information to correct my mistakes?
Nope, not at all.

Todd's Talon Digest - Those were the days. Hallman's car always looked so stock on the outside, but under the hood crazy.

Another thing I think we often forget is before everyone and their brother wanted a WRX Sti the 1Gs had a big rally following also. Here is one of my favorites pics. People always think it is fake so I have added video taken at the exact same time.

I'd be really interested in seeing that pic. That grey Talon was incredibly clean, and I agree with you on the wheels. They were anodized black if I recall correctly, and it was a poor job. Those are just not meant to be a black wheel.

I haven't actually met Adam (archTSI) but he's a friend of a friend. I didn't realize the Archers were that big among the DSM community. I guess I'll have to run up and check it out sometime. I know they build Vipers now, however.
