I talked with a guy last week who worked for DSM in the early stages, he was one of the guys who took the Pre Production cars to Auto Shows across the country showing it off...how BADASS is that! he was saying it was one of the most fun cars he has driven to date doing what he does, and got ALOT of attention driving it around on the road on his off time (Sneeking it out of course, )
Great minds think alike
I'll have to scan this one in when I get a chance. Its the LA Auto show handout-Jan. 88'. It has a great high quality shot of the front. The detail is great to see.
I'll try to scan it all this weekend
I want those wheels from that first ad really bad! Like these, only in chrome or aluminum... One day, seeing they cost like $250 per wheel.
(This is an archer racing car btw)
The 2nd photo was just a zoomed up excerpt of the mini-article. I dont recall the magazine name. I will need to look to see if I still have it. Just dates on the back, May 88'.
Here is the rest of the article. The rear end of the car is pretty amazing especially with the dual exhaust flush mounted. My favorite quote from the article,"the excitement aroused by the roadster has inspired Mitsubishi to put a convertible into X2S's production plans for the future."
I think we would all line up for a job like that
And so here's a few more.......the Eclipse die-cast showed up the other day so I figure some shots were in order...
X2S's lines were sleek.....wonder where these prototype cars are?
I guess a phone call to that warehouse is in order....if that's true, then, roadtrip! Good find!
And, one more relative link:

Some of the info on these links is unfortunately not true. First case in point is the Gullwing Eclipse. I have seen so many stories written on US Forums about these rare birds and not one has come close to the truth. So I decided to take the time to write it out for all my DSM family.
The Gullwing Eclipse in Japanese was built as a result of a Police Drama in Japan called "Gorilla-Police Investigation Department Team 8" or just "Gorilla" for short. The show was hugely popular in Japan and has a cult following to this date. The show was sponsored and partly produced in cooperation with Mitsubishi. Hence every car in the show was a Mitsubishi. Yujiro Ishihara the owner/founder of Ishihara Productions wanted the lead actor of the police drama to have a car that would be his signature calling card. So the Gullwing Starion was born. Yujiro was the biggest actor of his day, dubbed "Japan's Elvis." So of course Mitsubishi was more than willing to build the Gullwing Starion. This is the reason there are a some Gullwing Starions floating around in Japan. The show was very popular so Mitsubishi offered the Gullwing Starion to the public as a built to order vehicle. The same scenario took place for the Gullwing Eclispe. 2 built for Ishihara Productions to start testing with. The show was very action heavy so the car was put through its paces. Meanwhile, 10 more gullwings were built per special order. However, the car did not make the cut and was going to be just an alternate and the show got pulled shortly there after. Thats basically it in a nutshell.
A buddies website showcasing alot of the TV series collectibles, to include a gullwing eclipse brochure I gave him in 2002.
Gorilla TV Series Collectibles
His page showing all the main vehicles of the series. Which included a 4G63 Mirage, 4G63 Galant(VR4) and at the bottom the gullwing eclipse to be used in the show. Couple on set photos and some TV show outtakes.
Gorilla Tv Series Cars
Shop maintaing some of the TV show cars to include the Gullwing. At the bottom of the link is a Youtube video showing the garage housing more of the shows cars.
Gorilla TV Series Vehicles
Yujiro Ishihara was so popular there is a memorial hall/museuem built in his honor housing many cars from the show. The site is Japanese, but the pictures of the cars require no tranalation. Enjoy.
Yujiro Ishihara Musuem
On a seperate note I found one at a dealer lot on one of my last visits to Japan. It was originally red, but had been painted black. It was in decent shape. But the dealer was too attached. He had "ASK" listed for the price. But when we got to talking he kept on about the show and how it was the coolest also how big the boom was in Japan at the time. I knew he was not parting with the car. But getting to see the car and play with it was awesome. The doors are not like a typical gullwing. They are automatic. They have a power open and close button. Plus the keyhole to lock and unlock is on the B-pillar.

And so here's a few more.......the Eclipse die-cast showed up the other day so I figure some shots were in order....I also included some early Turbo Magazine ads that are DSM relative, some Archer Racing patches I have, and a color shot of the 1G Archer Talons-SCCA championship cars from seasons '89-'93 - From left to right: 1989 Season AWD Turbo - 1990 Season FWD Turbo - 1991 Season FWD N/A - 1992 FWD N/A - 1993 FWD Turbo.
Good stuff Nathan. I love the 1st Talon ad. "Eagle. Not Intended For The General Public.", nuff said. Here are some more ads:
I noticed the Wiki entry on The Plymouth X2S was created fairly recently. I wonder if it is something that is just visible from the street and that is why the person decided to create the article. Maybe we can get one of the members who are in the local area to do some recon and snap a few photos. Super Sport works or worked at the "Plant", he just might be are inside connectionI guess a phone call to that warehouse is in order....if that's true, then, roadtrip! Good find!
That diecast is totally cool. I have well over a hundred Ertyl American Muscle 1/18 diecasts.
What are the chances I could find an Eclipse diecast?
"Club DSM" license plate frame back when www.dsm.org was the place to go on the internet, and the Talon Digest was the source of all the latest news. A local guy had them made, I think back in 1995 or 1996. Not sure what happened to him.
Marc Hallman's (yes, the Hallman boost controller) engine bay with a ginormous turbo.
Billet aluminum adjustable fuel pressure regulator adapter. This may be a Buschur Racing piece, but not sure. It belonged to a friend who never installed it. Huge chunk of aluminum, not sure why it had to be so big since the ones today are so much smaller.
Some awesome stuff there Phil. Great shots of the model. I always hoped that on the side of the box where it has the available colors with the boxes next to the name, that one day I would find the white box checked. Just wishful thinking I know. The Archer photo and the AutoTechnica Ad are awesome.

Another quick one for the thread. My original HK$ fuel cut defencer(FCD). I ran this on the car until I went to the MAF-T.
I have this from June 2003. I wish I had a way to scan it without taking the pages apart.

Not that I'm really complaining because I'm a big 1g guy, but why don't we have a whole lot about 2g DSMs? Everything in this thread has been first gen...just curious what they would've said about them.
I guess you missed the "Old School" part of the title.

I love this topic.
Btw. Is there somewhere on the internet video of Eclipse 1G assembly in factory?
Does it even exist?
Do it!
I have something similar to share. This is from the February 2003 issue of Sport Compact Car. This was one of the factors that sold me on DSMs. The magazine fell apart from being looked at too much, so I pulled the pages and put them in a binder. Someone wrote on the second to last page.
95talongirl is from the Detroit area, and a great photographer, perhaps she could get some picture of the Plymouth X2S?
I still have my HK$ VPC, complete from the jumper harness, sensor harness, sensors, and the unit!
I found some more brochures and advertisements, I will upload them shortly.
Edit: Just scanned one in... It's basically the same info that was on the last pamphlet I uploaded, but I figured someone might want to see it.
Bet I'm the only member with one of these....

I have this Eagle catalog, also. Not sure if this has already been uploaded or not, but I scanned it anyways. The front cover and back cover are a big poster of a talon.
I also have this very cool "Eagle Talon Enthusiast's Guidebook", a 23 page booklet, complete with a 4 page wide centerfold of a two-tone black/grey 1ga Eagle Talon. That's a lot of pages to scan, so I want to make sure that it hasn't already been uploaded elsewhere before I do so.

This is interesting stuff here........I have a pic of the gray Talon from the DSM Shootout in 1998. John Archer(one of the brothers)set up a vendor stand and that car was there. I have one pic only, I'll dig it up. This car was another "show" car to showcase their mods. The car was beautiful, sorry to hear of what happend to it.Member on here archTSI is Archer's son. Compare his car with the car in the pic.
As far as I know it had extremely low original miles and was tuned on E85. He sold it when the clutch went out and the kid who bought it took it out and totalled it the FIRST day. This wasn't long ago. Such a shame. You must be logged in to view this image or video. You must be logged in to view this image or video.
Hah, when the clutch was out he let my buddy borrow the wheels which he put on his hunked together piece of a crappy TSi AWD.
Wheels worth more than the car. Which developed a rod knock a week after he traded for it and then was sold to Archer for $100.
Love this! Flares & deep dish rears! I want that front lip spoiler in the worst way!
And from ebay several months back(I was tempted), the aforementioned rarest DSM of all(according to the wiki link I think):
Nope, not at all.Sweet, mind if I edit in your information to correct my mistakes?

I'm a big fan of dark(black, bronze) wheels but I would not have ruined those weld EVOs and painted them black. The polished aluminum made that wheel, but hey, I'm just one opinion.
