Wire Tuck [Merged 7-9] tucks tucking wiring tucked

I'm not sure where boostin2high put it. There is at least 1 wire you have to lengthen for sure. Actually, I just lengthened all of the wires before I realized I probably didn't have to because they were long enough already.

Are you trying to avoid lengthening any wires? If you don't mind doing some rewiring, you can probably put the whole harness underneath the intake manifold fairly easily. I would run the injector wires in the gaps in the im and lengthen the wires from the coil pack, tps, and mdp to go underneath the im.

Haha, nice try but it must be grounded :)

Damn..Good thing you said that because mine isn't. I just tucked it with everything else in the IM, wierd thing is, is everything is running just fine..I'm definatley going to change that.

I know what wire it was that i have to extend but yet even then with the WHOLE harness un-wrapped I still didn't have enough slack.

Good to know. Like I said before, I extended all the wires before I even checked their lengths, but once I checked it looked like it could have fit with only extending the one wire.

Another option is to bolt the power transistor to the bottom of the intake manifold somewhere if the wires will reach.

Im going to extend all the wires any way just to be safe.
1 thing I did notice thought wich kind of puzzles me is the on the back of the Power Transistor, the plastic housing actually pertrudes out alittle bit to were the plastic would actually be touching the IM rather that the medal on the back, wich in my eyes leads me to believe that its not actually being grounded byt he IM, but I'm probably really wrong.

Here are some of my pictures of my wire tuck. Eric and I did this over the summer. I'm sorry for the crappy looking valve cover, wiper arms, clutch/brake reservoir brackets, and the random placement of the coolant bottle.

And a better picture of the power transistor placement.

Damn dude..that valve cover looks like its from the age of the square wheel.ROFL
Did you have to extend the wires for the transistor?
Looks good though:thumb:

Haha, the valve cover used to be all nice and pretty but it soon became a holder for tools and just started chipping. I'm going to get it powdercoated this spring/summer and then nothing will touch it except something to cover it while working in the engine bay.

And yes, we did have to extend the wires for the power transistor. Everything Eric has posted in this thread about it was about my car.

Roger that..
Did you guys remove anything from the firewall that wasnt needed?
Or should I say do you know of anything that can be removed without hurting the car?
I really SOO sick of the damn clutter!

Thanks Bro!

That I'm not sure. Eric will have to answer that one as he did most of the work dealing with the tuck.

Wow that valve cover needs help...

Yes it does. And it will get fixed in the spring or summer. That was just a fast, cheap job that the previous owner did to make it look nice. Obviously not meant to last.

looks pretty busy there if you ask me.

I think a lot of it has to do with the vacuum hoses everywhere. Some of them are so big you can't tuck them away either. Plus, if you looked at the two very nice and clean engine bays posted earlier in this thread, anything will look busy compared to them.

Here is what all that was done that I can remember:
1. Remove all emissions (including solenoids on firewall, charcoal canister under battery, all vacuum lines, egr, etc.) - these will throw a cel if the solenoids are unplugged - Brian has DSMlink so he can get rid of the cel's
2. Remove ABS - his car didn't come with it, but this cleans up bay a bit
3. Remove a/c - cleans up bay and shaves weight! (all lines, condenser, and compressor)
4. Mild rewiring of engine bay
5. Remove fiav
6. Remove cruise control
7. Remove mdp sensor (1g engine swap)
8. Remove fps

Here are other things that can be done, but cost more money to do or we don't want to do:
1. Remove power steering
2. Relocate battery (this will happen in future)
3. Fully rewire engine bay / relocate fuse box (this will happen in future)
4. Sheet metal intake manifold
5. Remove heater / heater hoses
6. New fuel lines to clean up firewall
7. Remove heat shields (not recommended)
8. Move fans to other side of radiator
9. Speed density setup (no maf)
10. Non-water cooled turbo setup
11. External oil cooler
12. Running without intake pipe (not recommended)
13. Relocate alternator
14. No front o2 sensor - use wbo2 narrowband output signal
15. COP setup
16. Custom brake lines
17. + much, much more

It all depends how much money you want to put into it, and what you're willing to sacrifice for a clean engine bay. Just cleaning the engine bay once in awhile helps too. And having a nice looking valve cover :tease:

looks pretty busy there if you ask me.

Got any suggestions to make it better without putting a lot of money into it?

Another tip for you guys when you are doing this is; use zip ties or wire when moving things around or keeping them in place while you are tinkering with the actual wires.

Like when I relocated my ECU, I used zip ties to hold my fusebox away from the area I was tucking wires.

Or when I was tucking the wires to my fusebox, I used zip ties to hang the fusebox from, so it would be out of my way when I was working around it with wires.

Just a tip.

So I finally maned up and decided to pull my sub out and relocate my battery to the hatch.
Only got so far because of a stubborn bolt that was stripped and took up half my night trying to get it out, which I still failed miserably.
Whatever tomorrow is another day.
Some pics of the process, nothing special.

Anybody know if this plug needs to be grounded (right next to the coil pack):

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to be grounded so you can move it. Just make sure the little metal tab that holds the connector up doesn't connect with anything inside the plug now.
