so thats the ####ing crank....
son of a bi***....:barf:
what about rethreading it?
would that be retarded?

You can if you want, but you will need an experienced machinist that can properly fixture the crank, then machine out the old threads, tap and helicoil new threads, and then use new parts. Either way, the crank should be pulled. I would NOT recommend simply drilling and tapping the crank in the car.

Unfortunately, one of my "things that could be the cause" was correct -- flywheel bolts. That sucks dude.

You need a new crank, flywheel (please do not buy another fidanza; please use a stock flywheel or an ACT streetlite flywheel), flywheel bolts (for the future, always use new bolts, loctite red with 100ft/lbs torqued evenly), and while you are in there, I would probably do new main bearings rod bearings, and thrust bearing, along with new gaskets, seals, and take your time to do the service updates on the car (timing belt, oil pump/gears, water pump, tensioners, etc.).

This is not a cheap fix; you are likely going to find it cheaper to purchase an entire differnt long-block.

The OEM crank is around $700, the flywheel will be a couple hundred, the flywheel bolts will be another $15, and then all the miscellaneous stuff will add up quickly.
95 gsx shell forsale... LOL..

man this blows..

Before you replace the Crank or engine, I would re thread them and torque to spects, to see if they hold the torque, Make sure to use plenty of RedLock and be gentle when torquing them in.
If they hold the torque, then you will be OK.

i like your answer its more realistic. haha

Forgot to mention, this is only a quick fix, this is not recommended for a daily drive, It will only be to gain time and money for the rebuild or new engine.

exactly.

How trashed are the theads? Are they all screwed bad?

The thread pitch is an M12x1.25mm. You would need a M12x1.25mm bottoming tap -- McMaster-Carr - part number:

26015A226

You will need new flywheel bolts - MD302074 x 7

This is only if the threads are repairable. If there are threads physically missing, you will need to drill and tap it using helicoils.

Again, McMaster is your friend, 91732A964 is the kit, you will need 12mm or 18mm inserts based upon the thread depth of the crank. Check out catalog page #3284.

You will also need a high-speed jobber drill bit for this -- 31/64" - part number

3022A61 - page #2433

good luck

they're out of whack mostly on the outside. like the outer most portions of it they're pretty good deeper inside.

What is the crankshaft made of? wouldnt the bolts be made of a weaker metal?
thus not damaging the crankshaft badly? because i remember pulling out the bolts and the threads were 100% destroyed and polished.. the crank had a lot of metal shavings in it.
i already went home so i can't go back out and look at it. i have it parked in my parent's drive way.

And would it be extremely tedious or difficult to retap without removing the crank from the block?
would i be able to remove the crank from the bottom by removing the oil pan? i just dont want to do the head again it was a pita.

Tedious and PITA is the minimum of things you will think. I would assume that there will be several explicatives, some tool throwing, some heavy drinking, and general hair pulling if it is severely screwed up.

The crank is hard material, it would be best helicoiled by drilling it in a fixture with a vertical end mill, but you "might" be able to do it on the car with some serious hand control otherwise you will get the thread holes out of center.

Your best bet first is to see how the bottoming tap I gave you the part number does for thread cleanup. If the threads are chewed up after using the tap, you will need to drill, helicoil tap, and helicoil install into the crank flange. Yay. Fun. Not.

thats all i live for while working on these shitty cars.
haha
aight, so the bottoming tap just cleans up the threads?
like, clears broken threads and what not?
i tattoo for a part of my living so i have pretty steady hands .
well see how it goes..
and wtf is up with map charging 25$ a damn bolt?
I'll get some better flicks tomorrow so you can check em out and let me know what you think.
i generally like the idea of a second opinion
maybe even third opinion on things like this.

oh is this the part number you meant? looks like you selected the wrong part number.

Yup, I posted the wrong one; the proper part number is the one you listed.

As for the flywheel bolts, you are going the wrong place for them if it is that price.

I sell the set of 7 for $21. TMZ Performance

IT wouldn't be a bad idea to throw a dowel in the crank while you have it apart. That helps hold things in alignment better.

You will need to clean that up since the crank flange needs to be perfectly flat for the flywheel to mate to it. That's easy stuff.

Well, you can order directly on my website, then I would ship them when payment is received. It is typically a 4-day ship time due to your location.

i ordered the six 1989-1992 set of flywheel bolts.
:)

so my flywheel is toast?
and since i have 6 bolts on my crank,i do indeed have a six bolt correct?

Yes, 6 flywheel bolts and 6 bolt holes in your crank mean you have a "6-bolt crank".

You ordered and then cancelled your order, is that correct? I am just making sure.

And yes, your flywheel is now toast. You will need a new flywheel.

Man those bolts I found in my garage, we're for a 7 bolt and they don't fit. They screw in like 2 threads and stop

I have 6 bolt swap one of the holes on crank is stripped.. Can I leave that one out?
All new oem bolts and 271 red ..

I would highly suggest you to fix it and install that last flywheel bolt. Would you drive your car with only 4 wheel studs?
