Why does my Auto RS-T shift so early?

I just completed the honeycomb/air silencer removal mod and after warming up my little Laser I took the car on a WOT run to see if I could feel my slightly less restricted intake gains.

The car feels good but she's shifting at 5,500?? Is it because my auto has a smaller turbo? If I increase the HP in the higher rpms will the RS still shift so early or will the TCU adjust for the higher HP?

Check your TPS settings....Do you have the turbo TCU ? The NT TCU's shift earlier..

So you're saying that the only way to control my shift points is by those mods?

Even with a EPROM TCU?

The only difference with the EPROM TCU is that you can have it flashed with different shift points. But, you would have to pay someone to do this for you. Unless you have a chip burner and the knowledge to do so.

Wait.

I know you are concerned about the shifting, but removing the honeycombs on our MAF sensors is a bad idea without some way to tune for the change in metered airflow. Does your "tuned ECU" have a chip that compensates for this? If not, don't be surprised if the car runs worse without them.

Oh, and if it runs better, congrats on your 2hp free mod. LOL

Both of my Talons have been AWD autos and both always up shifted at 7000 RPM when at WOT.

If the TPS shows less than WOT while your foot is on the floor it would cause the TCU to shift at a lower RPM. I second the TPS check.

So you guys think my TSP isn't working correctly? Remember I have the small turbo, FWD, car SO maybe my TCU is shifting where it is supposed to. I doubt my TSP is bad with my mileage.

Like stated before an auto should shift closer to 7k at WOT..Go balls to the wall and see if it shifts above 5k..

Your not going to see alot of power above 5k with the small turbo/manifold/02housing, but it should shift above 5k if your foot is on the floor..

Its around 5800 at WOT. I'm just worried when I do upgrade the turbo if the car will still shift at 5800.

1g auto's make hardly any power above 5k..It has to do with the cams the turbo etc..It's been soo long since I have drove my car at auto..But I remember I could get it to shift above 5800k at WOT..

This was the article I was looking for...If you have the time..Check the serial numbers on the TCU with this thread and make sure it's not a n/t tcu.. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-drivetrain/277172-1g-tcu-guide.html

My 1G Talon shifted at 7000 RPM at WOT with the OE turbo.

My 2G Talon shifted at 7000 RPM at WOT with the OE T-25 turbo.
After the stroker conversion and the E3-16G with the original TCU it still shifted at 7000 RPM at WOT. Harder yes, with more authority yes, but still at the OE setting of 7000 RPM.

It's the correct TCU, I just changed it out because the old one was fried. I used the same TCU as the last. I have the rare three prong FWD turbo TCU. I researched for awhile to find the correct one.

How did you get it to shift past 5800?

I'm talking to the guy that deals with EPROM TCUs and he said he could flash mine for me but I might have to buy a new TCU if mine is not already an EPROM. But I just spent over $550.00 on the remanufactured, upgraded TCU. Ahhhh DSM are SO much more complicated then Modular Stangs.

You have the semi rare 6 bolt tcu..Which is 3 prong..the 92.5 7 bolt auto's started with the 2 prong tcu..

You could get it chipped if it's an eprom, or get it reflashed..If it's really causing that much of a headache..Well It would kinda piss me off if mine wouldn't shift right either..That's why I opted for a shift box..LOL

0093 is fwd turbo..So you have the right tcu..

Shift box?

I'm not too worried about the car not shifting at redline since I know I do not make much power after 5800 but once I do it'll piss me off.

Do they even make an EPROM, 6 bolt, TCU?
