Hey guys,

Got a quick question, is there any adjustment in the 1g automatic shifter cable? The problem I’m having is the car won’t engage park. If I push it all the way forward it never feels like it goes in to park, and if I’m on an uncle it will roll and I can hear what I’m assuming is the parking park rattling bc it’s close to popping in. Also I have to go down to the neutral slot to start the car.

I apologize if this is something simple, the car is at my friends garage to get rebuilt so I figured I’d ask while it was on my mind, and then go from there when I was working on it next time.

Thanks!!
Evan

I’ve never had an auto dsm but there is usually some type of adjustment. I’d start by looking at the end of the cable where it attaches to the transmission. Hopefully someone with some experience will see this soon. Good luck!

There are adjustments but since I've never done them myself I can only offer some scans from the FSM.

Also check to make sure nothing is blocking it. After installing a FMIC waaaay back in the day on my auto 1G the bov was pointed down and misaligned so the top of it was actually blocking the shifter from going into park. Sometimes it can be the dumbest stuff. Also pull the center console and etc to make sure nothing is blocking it there.

I figured there was some adjustment, it was just one of them things that popped in my mind while I was away from the car and couldn’t find any info about searching.

Thank you SO MUCH!!! That is exactly the info I needed, now I’m not going in to this blind when I get to work on it again!

I checked everything in the console a while back and it was all good there, and it still done this even when there was nothing in the engine bay but a bare block and trans, I’m 99.999% sure it’s just out of adjustment some how.

Ive messed with mine for various reasons. Number one thing is make sure you use a small pin(drillbit) in the 2 holes on your switch to keep neutral. Cables stretch or kink though not often.
