So for the last 6 months or so I thought I had found a new shop that was worth a damn. Met the owner, pretty cool told him what i expected and started to invest with his shop with my car. So for the last few weeks he has not been answering my calls or emails. There were never any problems i paid cash on time and never hassled.

Anyway since i was due for a rebuild IAm now looking for a shop that can rebuild my 99 Gst motor. Dont really trust any shops around here. Pissed I invest with a shop and get the shoulder. Just heard he is not working on dsm's anymore. He is tired of them. Tool bag.

Without knowing the whole story, its hard to make a comment on the situation. Usually there is a reason for the "cut off." But it is what it is.

Are there any performance-based shops around? I'd look into those types of places. Usually they are better equipped to deal with the finicky nature of a turbo car; especially a modified one. Most of your "run of the mill" repair shops tend to shy away from modded vehicles as they can be more difficult to diagnose and get parts for. Then the owners of the cars come back and try to blame the car blowing up on them... seen it a bunch of times.

I agree. And to be completely honest me and the shop owner got along well. HE was telling me that he was tired of working on dsm's because of people always haggling with him on prices. Thats why i never haggled and paid cash on time everytime. I mean if that is the case thats fine. Just pissed me off i invested with his hsop after talking to him about my plans.

Go to alamoautosports .com is a local shop here in arlinton tx, they work on dsm's they also do a very good job. The only thing about them is that they charge good money.

Ive heard good things. Have you used them? I wish i could get Thomas the guy from Jotech to mess around with my car. He is always up there though.

Yeah i go to alamo to get parts for my gsx they have a pretty good service, i was there 2 weeks ago, they charge me 450 to my car on dyno for three hours, any ways im on the same boat as you now i have to get a whole new motor my gsx threw a rod this past weeking so im doing a 6bolt swap with forged internals.

Id like to keep my 7 bolt since its a washer motor and has the flashable Ecu. Motor still runs but, im looking for a place to build it right!

Go try alamo man you be looking for $2000 for them to build, your motor, go talk to them, i had the washer block too off a 97 gst, this what happen i threw a rod, i cant not even rebuild my block etheir is so damage has a hole on the back of the block. im not too worry about 6bolt swap.

Check out the vendors here on the forums. There are a lot that do engine builds. Shoot me a Pm if you want to go over things for your build. We would love to help you out. Thank you Allen @ SIM.

Put it together yourself. Have the needed machine work done by a reputable machinist, and build the stupid thing; it's not rocket science. I've been building engines that way since 1988, and never had one come apart. Just make sure everything is clean, measure everything three times, and torque everything properly.

Ive bulit rotary's but i just dont feel like building engines anymore. Especially when i do not have the time like I used to.

HAve you got a quote from Alamo yet?

I think that slowboyracing does 7 bolt builds..... i know they sell 7 bolt shortblocks (if thats what your looking for)
idk if that helps

Do not buy anything from slow boys raceing
They are a terrible company and rip people
Of all the time

I personally havent delt with slowboyracing, just know they are one of the few places that sell built 7 bolt shortblocks. I have no input towards their customer service or business ethics, so I cant talk negatively about them. I'm just simply making a suggestion for the OP's question.

Personally, I would go with SIM. I haven't dealt with them yet, but their prices are good and I have seen that they do great work! Any shop that builds 6-bolt motors could and would build your 7-bolt.

uhhh, IDK if that comment is entirely true..... BUSCHUR racing (probably the most infamous shortblock builder)..... says on their website that they ONLY build 6-bolts (just saying)

You don't have to change out the ecu to swap a 6 bolt in. Everything electronic that is on the car you will reuse other than the cam and crank sensors. You use the 1g cam angle sensor instead. Also being that you have the 97-99 style ecu with the cam sensor on the passenger side of the head you will not have to swap the plug or injector wires around.

Don't deal with sbr just check the vender reviews. Personally I would save the 1-2grand and build it my self. If your bent on having someone build it for you I'd talk to sim, I haven't dealt with them but I'm aware of their reputation so I'd feel secure in recommending them to you.

I would check the compression on the engine. If it is in good condition i would in no way consider pulling it apart. Unless you are planning on making big power a good condition 7 bolt will take plenty of abuse.

Last compression check was mid 150's. Sounds healthy at least. Thanks for the info guys.

Bro, there are like 4 shops in OKC hat I trust with my car. If you need names just PM me. Im in Lawton.

Dont listen to idiots like this guy^^

A 4 cyl is a 4cyl. Anyone that does rebuilds will do it for you. This is what happens when a bunch of people that dont know anything decide to chime in and spout off some useless irrelevant information.
