I have decided that the motor is going to be redone , I'm either going to have someone rebuild it or have it swapped with a crate. I work 7 days a week and have NO time to attempt to rebuild it myself nor have I ever rebuilt a motor so doing it myself is out of the question so. I've read all the threads on here about crate motors (all several years old) and would like to throw this out for discussion, hp goals aside who builds quality motors? My budget is gonna be around $4k for the motor.

Got my turbo from them today (dsm graveyard) , it came with the j pipe... but not the piece that connects it to the intercooler so I guess I need to buy a new j pipe?

Or just have a welding shop weld the flange on the j-pipe you have now. You can find the flange in many places, like psi might have it, but a new j-pipe is like 60 bucks.

So it's like this right?

If you're stock like your profile says, then you need a 90* coupler and maybe an extension pipe

+1... You learn so much about the car & nobody to blame but yourself for the quality of the work.

Don't we all wish we could build our own engines, but the op already stated he has no time to work on a project this big. That said, I agree with you. Not only do you learn tons about your own car, you can take the time to really do the extra things that add up in the end.

If your looking for a crate engine we would love to help out. We are very competitively priced and even offer a few different services that come standard in our builds that most company make you pay as an add on. The good thing is your not to far away from us and could come check out the operation when you drop off the core if that is what you would be doing, and that would save on shipping.

I dont really know what stage your looking for but here is our directory. We also can do 1 off builds based off the customers requests.. I hope to here from you have a great day, Allen @ SIM.

Building engines is not that hard...Back years ago i had a shop build me a 4g63T and it cost me about $7000.00 parts/labor.

A year ago I built my own 4g63T for my second talon and i cost me half the money and all internals were replaced with OEM and Hi performance parts ..!

Build Your own...You have a HUGE DSM community to help You out...Its not that hard.

Unfortunetly, in todays society, time is money. He has no time to work on it (guessing due to work related issues) which means he would have to take off work/schedule around trying to get time to put an engine together. To some people that is worth the extra money. But, can't argue that there is plenty of information on here to help you through the process. If it were me, and I was curious about learning to build a motor, then I would keep my engine (the core), buy one, and then tear down the orginal seeing how it all works and slowly start working on it as you still drive your car. Now, to the OP, you are going to find good and bad reviews not only in the Vendor area, but all over the internet as well. Being a part of a growing business for a few years now you can NOT do everything perfect, everytime. So, what to look for is how the said customer is taken care of in the event something happens. Like others said, there are many reputable shops on here if you go through the supporting vendors list. I would pick up the phone, start calling and see who you get that "good vibe" from, not who is going to save you 5 dollars. :thumb:

Agree..If the car being rebuilt is the daily driver and time is short...
However, most people mess with dsm's as a hobby so why let someone else get in the act...LOL

ED ya it looks like that.

Ya guys, like it was said above I'd love to do it myself, but I have no time and this car is a daily driver so if I took the time to build an engine i'd be without a way to get around for a while. I work 7 days a week right now. To me it's worth the extra money to buy the engine and drop it in that way I know its good I know I didn't mess anything up and it can get finished quicker.
