Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

i think it might be the turbo seals. because i forgot to mention that the turbo was slightly smoking when it was at idle. if i replace those and that was the problem for the white smoke. would the car be ok to drive daily and not be beaten on till i get a tune? all i have is 272 hks cams stock turbo and intake and 3" t-back exhaust. plase let me know in a pm if you have any feedback. if not just let me know somehow.

I had a 92 eclipse that did the same thing. The only thing I remember (this was 10 years ago) is that the reason the shop gave me for the smoke was that I was burning oil. You say your oil was empty so sounds right to me. Pretty sure it requires a engine part replaced or fixed all I know is it was expensive and not worth it. I switched to to motor oil that does not smoke but this was just a stock car that I didn't care about. If this is a car you care about you need to head off to an engine shop

p.s. pretty sure it was the head gasket

90 talon turbo.
drove car 50 miles back home and right when i pulled into my drive way, it started smoking. Just a little at first and gradually got worse.
Engine did not get hot.
Coolant smell. pulled pulgs one at a time and cranked engine to see if vapor was coming out of holes and none of them belw out any vapor.
Changed head gasket with same results and geting worse.
Pulled head back off stripped it down to nothing, glass bead to clean it and deaked it. head is perfect straight as an arrow, no cracks!
No water in oil and no oil in water.
no bubbles in coolant. coolant was slowly going down while engine running.
spark plugs looked in great shape no signs of detonation
When i first pulled head off i noticed coolant behined some of intake valves.
Before some one says check your turbo i would like to know how coolant could pass through oil seals and not mix with the oil? turbo runs fine min shaft play.
anyone hear or had same symptoms please help

rotate your crank over and check your cylinder walls. check to see if you have a crack from a water jacket.
long story short I made a noob mistake and ended up throwing my wiesco wristpin locks to the pan and having my wristpins grind gouges in the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. it was devastating. i was pouring white smoke out of my exhaust as well, I did as you did removed my head and there was nothing wrong, my cometic 3 layer had a good seat, the ringed block was fine until I rotated the crank and found the damage.

If it wasn't magnafluxed I don't wanna hear about how the head is "good". You shouldn't go decking the head either unless you know for a fact its not true.

Well lets get your procedures correct.... Magnafluxing a 4G63 head will not work, the head is aluminum, there for can not be magnatized. Aluminum heads need to be pressure tested for cracks.

For checking for warp...

As far as decking/milling/surfacing a head...

Now OP.... how was your head milled? and what head gasket are you running?

Im getting this same problem in my 420a-T but I think its my turbo. Mine smokes once in a while but A LOT it doesnt do it all the time though. And when I pop my hood I find oil around the inlet of the compressor side of the turbo.
Make sure your turbo isnt leaking oil either.

allwheeltsi I dont think anybody wants to hear your misinformation but thanks for trying.
Thanks everyone else for the replies.
Bogussvo.. I didnt have the head milled but bought it 3yrs ago fron j&c as a complete rebuilt head. Had a mls gasket bolted down with arp bolts. I changed gasket with a composite gasket after problem occured.
I said decked it...opps sorry i meant straight edged it to check for straightness.
Rotated crank and seen no damage.
bypassed throttle body and also dissasembled t.b. and applyed pressure to coolant lines and vaccum with no loss.

Well after a machinist looked over ther head and said it was good and talking to two other machinists who said that if it did have a crack in it it, it would be visible i called local shops in search of magnaflux dye penatrant kit for aluminum heads with no luck from local auto stores a guy told me to just use alcohol...duh...I found the little tiny bastard of a hole right below the valve seat in the exhaust port. not a crack, a hole the size of a needle.
For $2 i found the problem.
Does any one know what could have caused this?

When I do a 1st gear pull I get a puff of white smoke that comes out of the muffler. Only happenss in 1st gear though. I'm not sure if it affects anything but I do have an exhaust leak mid way down the car just before the cat. What could be the issue?

Well I've been chasing this problem for about a week now. The car was running great, this problem became apparent out of nowhere and there was no indication of it happening. When I get on the car, it will spool up and run great, pulls hard with no hesitation. However once I let off the gas and begin giving it gas again, it will begin to kick out a TON of white smoke (coolant) with just a hint of blueish smoke (oil).

Well I'm running an Ebay 16g and knew it was on its way out so first thing I did was check that, and sure enough it had plenty of play both axial and radial. So I took that off and found a lot of oil and coolant coming out as I tore it down. I assumed this was the issue and replaced it with a spare 14b that was in perfect condition last night. I wait until today, take the car out, and it does the same damn thing. I pull the car back in the shop and pop the hood and see oil dripping from the V band clamp on the turbo.

The weird thing is this turbo came directly off of this car and ran fine until the day I took it off and had zero play. The only thing that I can think I've changed is the oil catch can was relocated, but there's no sign of excessive oil running through that either. I also checked and had 170-180 across the board for compression.

My theory: Because the amount of smoke is reliant upon how much boost I create and hold, that means I must be pushing a certain amount of oil outwards based on my boost. However, it never smokes until after boost has been made and I've then let off the gas. Pressure pushes the oil outwards, vacuum then sucks it inwards, and once I give it gas again the oil gets burned through. This is assuming its all oil and not coolant however. So maybe it's coming from my valve cover? I never have had issues with my dipstick popping out either.

Possibly valve stem seals.

Sorry for the late reply guys I've been real busy.

Yes there was oil on the hot side of my turbo when I replaced it with the 14b.

Also, I'm running about 15 psi, but I have a US plastics check valve in line with my PCV already which I've checked for leaks.

I'm not quite sold on my oil rings either, because if it was the rings, then it wouldn't matter how much boost I gave it. It would always smoke after letting off the gas, which isn't the case since this only happens after heavy boost conditions and I have to be giving it gas again in order for it to happen. So it's almost as if me opening the butterfly and relieving vacuum is what is sending oil into the cylinders.

Here is a shot of a spark plug after a session of spirited driving:
