White smoke

I have a lot of white smoke coming out of my exhaust especially under boost. At idle it smokes a little too. Also a burning smell is always lingering in my car when driving. What do I need to replace to make it go away?

If the smoke has a bluish tint and smells of oil then it is probably the turbo seals shot. If the smoke is pure white and smells "sweet" then it is antifreeze which means probably a head gasket. Either one can be costly. You can pull the piping off of your turbo and check for oil at the outlet and excessive play at the compressor wheel. If it is a head gasket you should be loosing coolant. Look in the radiator for lots of bubbles and check your oil for water contamination.

It sound like your turbo going out, take out your intake pipe and check for play on the compressor wheel.

hmm are you sure it would be my turbo going out I seem to be holding boost fine. I really hope its not a head gasket though.

its pretty much the only two options. So then its proly a head gasket.

If it has a sweet smell to it your burning coolant. And if it smell like oil it is your most likely your turbo. Bluish smoke = turbo White smoke = head gasket

Why dont you just go check your turbo out and confirm that it isnt it. Then check and see if you are losing any coolant and see if its the HG.

I'd say blown turbo shaft seal's that's what's wrong with mine.

Do a compression test and/or leak down test!

I just had white smoke coming out.. like it would sit still after u start it up and looked as if the smoke was gonna go away then as i hit boost going up hill white cloud and smells sweet. ...

Im pulling out my engine today because my turbo was in good condition.. so im assuming mine is my head gasket so im just rebuilding my engine.

Has the car sat for a while? i recently picked up a 1g awd...thought it was burning oil because of white smoke...but i put new gas in and it stopped after driving it about 6-7 miles...my smoke would smell like gas...

if its not gas, its probably the valve stem seals...they go bad alot...and of course the car isnt new...

worst case would probably be the piston rings...

Not always, ive done valve stem seals ona couple of cars that smoked white constantly
