Which/What gauges should I get? [Merged 12-6]

the most crucial gauges that you can have are,

Wideband
Boost
Oil Pressure
Fuel Pressure

Those are all the vitals of the engine and the most important things to monitor

agreed, I would ad a coolant temp gauge.

Currently I have a boost, oil pressure, wideband, ad coolant temp. My fuel pressure gauge is in the engine bay on the FPR.

All you really need is a boost gauge. Wideband can be logged, stock oil pressure gauge is alright to use and so is the stock temp gauge. Fuel pressure gauge would be ideal on the FPR as that is where you are making your adjustments at.

I just run a boost gauge and wideband. However if you WANT gauges then it would be boost, wideband, oil pressure IMO for a DD car. More gauges the more you can monitor things but a lot are not needed but useful.

The stock oil pressure gauge is a POS.

It may not be exact to understand what your true pressure is but it WILL tell you if you are having oil pressure and roughly if it's high or low.

Boost, wideband, and EGT.

Boost is self-explanatory.

Wideband will tell you if you are having fuel issues, so you can just check fuel pressure on the FPR then.

Fuel pressure is pointless if you have a gauge on the FPR to set base.

Oil pressure, the stock gauge is good enough to tell you if you are lower or higher than normal. You don't need exact numbers for this.

Oil temperature is close to coolant temperature.

EGT will tell you how the car is running. If you are pulling timing from knock it will be way high.

Boost, wideband, and oil pressure. An exhaust temp gauge isn't really necessary if you have a wideband.

I have to disagree with this. At the most, the factory gauge is good enough to let you know if you have oil pressure or not. I discovered this when watching my factory gauge and my mechanical Autometer gauge at various RPM's and at various oil temps. At times, I can have anywhere between 20 psi and 50 psi of actual oil pressure, and the factory gauge will sit in the same spot regardless. Other times, I can hold a rock solid 25 psi, and the factory gauge is sitting at the bottom of the scale, hardly reading anything at all. In a nutshell, the factory gauge and sender is not very accurate at all, beyond a 'yes or no" whether there's pressure or not.

The most important three to me are Boost/vac, oil pressure, and wideband. I can live without my WB gauge as long as I can datalog AFR's, but it is nice to have as long as I have room for it.

I have a 97 N/A turbo 420a Eclipse, I just had a rebuilt engine put into it and I was wanting to get some gauges for my car, Im thinking the tri-pod gauges. What are some ideal gauges that would make sense for the non turbo? If anyone has advice im all ears. Thanks :)

Agree ^^ also, imho I would suggest prosport gauges if you wanted to save a bit from autometer, I've put prosport on several different cars, very well priced and high quality and you can get them in almost any color, I like the amber cause it matches the stock gauge faces well

Prosport ftw! I have the Evo gauges and they are good quality as well as being gorgeous and very reasonably priced.

screw it go triple pillar and dual clustar pod gauges

vacuum gauge
battery voltage
water temp

oil temp
egt

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Alright thank you guys for the advice and ive heard good things about those prosport gauges, ill look online and check them out. Ive really been considering getting the tinted gauges so that when I turn my car on they light up. But besides that thanks again guys.

Quality?! Prosport?!?! Prosports have got to be some of the cheapest gauges I have ever handled.
On a budget I'd go Autometer.

I persoanlly just replaced ALL of my gauges with AEM digital gauges. No more crappy Prosports.

First hand I and another friend have used glow shift and they are cheap but you pay for what you get. I don't like them at all problems with them. Don't recommend them. Some peoples have worked great some haven't. Autometer, Or aem

Autometer's seem to be hit and miss. I've got a few buddies running them in their subies and evo's and 2 of them had good luck with them and liked them a lot. The others however ending up replacing them because they stopped working. The only pair of prosports that i've seen in person other than my own made me fall in love with them. The start up sequence is pure sex! I ended up buying a prosports because of them:) I also contacted ECMtuning and was informed that the prosport wideband kit will work perfectly fine with dsmlink.

I recently installed gauges in my N/T Talon. I went with Glowshift despite all of the bad things said about them in the PAST. After a lot of research I started to find they were getting better so I bought a 3 gauge pillar pod, a coolant temp, a oil temp, and oil pressure gauges. I was and still am VERY impressed with them they work great and look awesome. Fitment was no issue and I couldn't be happier
