Which/What gauges should I get? [Merged 12-6]

AEM gauges are all right if you are into a more flashy cockpit. They are too bright and distracting for me, and their wideband interface is flakey with some ECU solutions. I recently sold all of my AEM gauges and am converting to Autometer Cobalt series for boost and oil pressure, and Innovate LC-1 for wideband.

in my opinion, with gauges, it is purely which style and brand you like, if you can get a deal on some, go get them! and as for electronic boost gauges, wen i installed mine i found it way easier as i just had to put a t-fitting on my vacuum lines, and when i tried to install a mechanical boost gauge i was told i needed all sorts of parts, i could have been mislead too though, hope it helps!

Ok, well I've done a lot of reading around, and I can't find the answer to this question: At what upgrade stage do you need an EGT gauge?

Let me explain a bit----

I am planning to do a complete Stage 1 upgrade according to the upgrade paths listed here. Am I going to need the EGT when I'm only turning up the boost? (as opposed to a new turbo, fuel system etc)

At this point I'm looking at getting a boost gauge and oil pressure to prepare for when I get the boost controller. Just wondering if I should save for the EGT or maybe not get it at all. Any advise is appreciated! Thanks

Joe

PS - 98 eclipse GST. Greddy hard pipe and waste gate. Stock exhaust except for a megan racing cat and ractive muffler. Zoom stage 1 clutch

I dont think you are going to need an EGT gauge, Im sure you would want a boost gauge before you get a boost controller. I only run 3 gauges in my TSI and thats a boost/oilpressure/wideband.

I run AEM boost, wideband, and fuel pressure. The AEM fuel pressure gauge can also be used for oil pressure and if you buy new, comes with the proper labeling for either so you can switch down the road if needed.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Boiler2 - you're running fuel mods and stuff that I am not planning to do.
Do I still need the wideband when I am not planning to upgrade the turbo or fuel?
I am wanting to do a stage 1 upgrade (exhaust, hard pipes, BOV, boost control - a driver, not racer)

Hey, i currently ahve a prosport boost gauge, and 2 extra spots. Looking down the raod, whet are 2 good gauges to get?

I figured either egt or wideband, which one is better?

also what else for that third spot?

thanks!

Wideband, no need for egt, and oil pressure. There is a thread on this but boost, oil, and wideband, are among the top three. I have a logger for coolant temps, and voltage.

Yep the wideband is more accurate it has a specific job, those are the three. IF your messing with the boost get a wideband, i havent done much but thats going to change with the addition of my FMIC. So im getting my wideband, this spring.

I'd have to agree with the above mentioned.

Boost, Wideband and Oil Pressure.

You could always go with Boost, Wideband and Fuel Pressure, but thats not really needed at all, if you plan on doing alot of mods I'd suggest just more then 3 gauges though.

Maybe such as water or oil temp too.

ok thanks a lot for the quick responses, is the stock oil pressure gauge inacurate?

And i know egt is exhaust gas temperature, its just that you can tell wether you are running lean/rich based off of that. but i guess i'm going with the wideband :)

Boost and wideband are for sure needed. I chose fuel pressure as my third. I got the AEM unit which I can switch if needed between fuel pressure or oil pressure.

I have an AEM wideband and after market boost gauge installed already. I was thinking of adding an EGT, Oil pressure and maybe an oil temp gauge? Any suggestions other than those three to add?
