Read this. It is all about what/which gauges to get.

As for my personal opinion, I would recommend getting a boost gauge, a wideband O2 gauge (used to help tune), and an oil pressure gauge because the stock one blows. Another good gauge to get would be an EGT.

Stay away from the air/fuel gauge because it really doesn't tell you much about how the car's running and basically is a light show more than anything. The wideband O2 would replace the air/fuel and do a MUCH better job and telling you the engine's vitals. But again, just do a bit of searching on here and you'll find plenty of opinions about what/which gauges to get. And the link above is a great place to start reading!

i really love these, thinking of getting the egt, boost and oil pressure from them....:thumb: :thumb:
what does everyone else think bout them?

Those are pretty nice! I found those and they look pretty similar to the ones I really like which are the Defi Blue Racer. But the Prosport's are a heck of a lot cheaper. :thumb: Here's a link to the Defi gauges. I think they look dang good, and the opening/closing is awesome! There's a link to the movie on this site.

I really like the looks and price of the prosports. I think I'm going to replace my Autometer boost with an electronic prosport boost and electric oil pressure gauge. Possibly a wideband also if they ever release one.

oh koo, its just that im sprung off those prosport ones that i didnt bother to look if the blue racer gauges needed a controller or not. i thought all defi link gauges needed one but you learn something new bla bla bla.....

anybody have any experience using the peak/hold prosport?

every person will tell you something diffrent when it comes to guages. ive always used autometer my self. but have friends that will tell you defi and greddy HKS and so forth i know im leaving out some really good company. it really comes down to your style and your taste. me i like a guage that serves it purpos at performance i dont care about black light carbon flashy guages that look super cool. it depend on how much money you are looking to spend to . just some advice i woulod go autometer tho thats what most people use.

^^ i disagree. if you can afford it, go defi, hks, greddy. if you ever notice the tolerance on the autometer boost gauge, it's a few mm for 0psi. thats to compensate for the lack of accuracy. check defi n others, not quite such a large tolerance. granted, the everyday user may not need defi, but they ARE nice

I just ordered the dual guage pod for the center vent on my 1g and I have an egt gauge to fill the one side but I dont know what gauge I should buy to put in the other spot. I was thinking water temp since I already have my boost gauge mounted on the a-pillar...any opinions?

I'd go with a wideband O2, like the AEM UEGO. Then again, with one of those there's no real reason to have an EGT.

I would get a water temp gauge. But I have had stupid little hoses blow off and cause me to overheat so im paranoid about that happening.

A/F is useless. There are many threads about it so I wint go into it. I would say boost and fuel pressure.

a/f wideband is very important and also boost for tuning purposes. fuel pressure is important, but that gauge isn't really necessary the a/f wideband cover that.

boost guage and EGT guages are your best bet.

the a/f is only for looks. it basically tells you when youre stoich(14.7:1) when youre idling, and it tells you when you hit the gas by going all the way rich, then when you let off by going to lean and thats about it. its about as accurate as the stock boost guage.

it all depends on what level and mods youve put in your car. wideband a/f is one of the most important gauge and is essential for tuning purposes.

everybody makes a big deal about EGT which isn't really important. the a/f basically tells all. the leaner you are running the car the high the EGT temp will be. so in essence having the boost and a/f is all that you really need.

Michael was referring to the blinky narrowband AFR gauges as being useless.
We all know that widebands have proven to be useful....

I totally agree with Thomas911, an A/F gauge is COMPLETELY for looks. You CANNOT tune with it, an EGT would be more tunable. If your car is tuned correctly a A/F would read RICH at wot 24/7. It will be the most useless mod. Unless you are going for appearence, then the LED looks cool I guess.

a/f wideband is one of the most important gauges for tuning purposes and it will read rich because that's the way you want it. explain this, how can you tuning base on an EGT gauge?

Let me explain it to you this way. Even widebands have their issues and not all widebands read the same. It has been proven by many people who own dynos. So as for widebands being more important than an EGT with that one fact it proves you wrong. Wideband cannot tune with race gas or it destroys the wideband.

Ok now as for everything of why an EGT is better. Because it can tell you about the engine before it melts. You can have good AF and still melt parts in your engine. That is a true fact. An EGT will help you from simply blowing up anything. If you are very good you can tune with a EGT not recommended but you can most defintely. You read the car for knock and then you monitor your EGTs. THAT IS HOW YOU TUNE with an EGT. Simply put when you tune with an EGT, when you make the car leaner it will raise the temp and drop if you richen it. BUT the EGT will still read high if it is running too rich, that is why you need to log the car. It is also said that with a perfect tune an EGT will start dropping until it starts rising again to cause engine problems.

Going on from there an EGT if you have dynoed the car even once as long as you remember what the EGT at max efficiency you can tune your car back to that point. That includes race gas. WHICH makes it more versatile too.

Thank you and play again.
Jason

BTW: you could have just asked a tuning shop or googled it, there are tons of people who try to answer this topic

Everyone I know of tunes by wideband.... regardless of the type of gas they are using. EGTs are an old way of tuning and nearly pointless this day and age. This thread should die.
