trying to decide which turbo to run on my gsx. my car is gonna be a dd so street car with good spool and top end. i at least want 400 whp on pump might run some meth to help also head is gonna be built with 275 cams, SMIM and manley springs on a stock 6 bolt block. theres three turbos im thinking bout hta 68, 20g, or holset? i dont wanna get rid of my slim fans so i want the turbo to be a direct bolt on.

I wanna go holset but I don't know what housing, manifold, and holset would work best with my setup. I wanna buy everything once and get the best performance with the combo.

HX35 or 50 trim gets my vote. Both in DSM Bolton housings on a stock manifold

Is the stock holset housing any benefit? Or running a t3 manifold?

Money is not a problem but the most ill spend on a turbo setup is 2 grand

you can run the stock T3 divided housing on the holset with an undivided manifold, you will suffer some spool time but...its up to you. T3 manifolds are expensive.

Then that's out of the question I don't want it getting more lag. So holset internally gated with bep housing, e3 manifold, o2 dump?

I'm just gonna go holset for now it will get me to my goals I don't wanna overkill and fund the money for a compound setup.

hx 35, bolt on housing, stock manifold, external wastegate, atmospheric dump

If you want something streetable that is fun as hell, TD05H 20G all the way. It's by far my favorite street turbo- there is not another turbo available for our cars that hits as hard and pulls as long. The 50-trims and HX35's out there have great airflow, but their power delivery is not as quick as the TD05H 20G.

Your car being a FWD will not benefit from a quick-hitting turbo like a 20G as much as an AWD car, so you may favor a HX35 or S256-259.

My car is a 2g gsx so traction is not a problem. Can you show me a pic of how the TD05H 20G looks like I get confused of what kinds of 20gs are out there

If you get an HX35 or H1C for $100, then the housing for ?
Tim's Turbos - Turbo Rebuilding - Steel Turbine Housing Mitsubishi Inlet
probably close to $300. Then you'd need an external gate O2 housing like the PR one
Punishment Racing your parts source for the Mitsubishi Evo & Eclipse, Eagle Talon and Laser
$550 with the gate. That's under a grand for the whole setup if you reuse your stock manifold. Will get you into the 400whp range.

If you can fabricate a down pipe yourself you may want to look into keeping the T3 flange and getting a $400-800 T3 manifold. It gives you greater options of turbine housings. You can also get a larger garret, borg warner, or even holset with the T3 flange as well. Either way if you go holset you can stay right around $1k.

Im going with Justin... The TD05H 20g is an amazing street turbo to get close to the goals.
Spool time is not much less if any than a 16g and it hit and pulls just like a big turbo!
After reading posts from Justin over time this is the turbo I decided to go with when I upgrade from my 14b and get the money!
He can explain much better on the spool time and details of the turbo itself for how it will act on a 2.0L street setup.

Happy Boosting and let us know which way you go and how it turns out

This is your basic TD05H 20G.....imagine this turbo with a DSM bolt-on turbine housing:

The problem is that nobody sells them new with a DSM bolt-on turbine housing and an internal wastegate actuator for a decent price. FP has the turbos new for $539, but they come with a T3 turbine housing.

I went with the 20g justin is saying and threw my 7cm housing on it. No numbers yet as it wont be ran till spring

Alright thanks. You have any laying around and also could my e3 16g be a donor?
I have none, and if you already have an Evo III 16G with an undamaged compressor you might be better off just going with something a little larger than a 20G. There is a noticeable difference between the two, but it's not as drastic as the difference between the 16G and HX35/S256. Some may wonder if the difference between the 16G and 20G would be a worthwhile upgrade.

Well I'm gonna be running pump so I don't know how much boost ill be able to make without knocking. how well do holsets do on pump gas?
