Hey all,

I've got a 6 bolt I'm wanting to swap into my 99 GS-T, but I was searching for an answer and couldn't find it. If I swapped the 2G head into the 6 bolt, which timing components and timing cover would I use? One peice timing cover for the 6 bolt or two peice from the 7 bolt?

For a 6 bolt in a 2g you will use the 6 bolt timing cover. It will have to be trimmed to fit around the 2g motor mount. Upper cover that goes over the top of the belt is the same on all cars so it doesn't matter which one of those you use

You have to make a small cut in the 6 bolt lower cover for it to clear the mount. I did a really poor job here but pic for reference.

I know that part. But that's just for the 6 bolt swap in a 2g. I'm asking which cover the the 2G HEAD ON A 6 BOLT BLOCK, as I'm under the impression the top parts of the head don't line up to the cover.

Hmmm, I think what you are looking for are the Tin timing covers that bolt to the head that match the plastic cover. The 2G tin's are different than the 1G tin's. The "California" shaped tin behind the PS pump has different bolt locations - for sure. I didn't use a 2G head on my 6-bolt so I'm not 100% sure.

I do recommend cutting the 1G cover in half - it makes it much easier to get on and off - and you really don't want to learn that the hard way.

6 bolt lower and 6 bolt uppers for me. All fits fine. I run a 6 bolt/7 bolt head combo in my Red 90 Talon. Cheap clear upper cover also works.
You have no extra work. Use the proper 2g head timing belt shields (or tins as they are being referred as). I am putting one together right now, so "Stay Tuned" if you want.

Thank you Marty. That was the clear answer I was looking for. 👍
