ok i am going to get a new clutch for my car. i was wandering which one i should go with. i was thinking of the act 2100. Dont think i want the 2600 because it is a daily driven car and will only go to the track a couple times a year. if there are some other brands you all would suggest let me know. i want a good streetable clutch for a cheap budget.

Alright, I have been having issues w/ the tranny and clutch since I got this car. It has an exedy, idk what type. So I'm replacing everything in a week.

I need to know which I should get, what's best for the money, and what's best performance-wise, and most important of all -- if it fits my car.

I have a 95 GS 420a.

Here's my options:

Spec Stage 2+ Modular clutch option: $510
SPEC Stage 2+ Clutch Kit 95-99 Eclipse/Talon 420a

My problem with this is: I don't know what modular is, if I should get a new flywheel or not, and if it will be able to handle the power I'm throwing into my car. Eventually, I'll be pushing 400-500 to the wheels. I think this is good for torque because from what I've gathered, our cars don't hold torque all too well, and the most I've seen on a 420a is like 450ft-lbs. And the guy has something like 680whp. (Not sure on the exact number, I just know right now he has the highest whp 420a) So I think with just 450-500whp, 400ft-lbs of torque capacity should be fine. I don't know though, that's why I'm here.

Spec Stage 2+ clutch kit, Fidanza aluminum flywheel: $550
Spec Stage 2+ Clutch Kit DSM - Modern Automotive Performance
Fidanza Aluminum Lightweight Flywheel (DSM) - Modern Automotive Performance

My problem with this is: It has the flyhweel, it's the same clutch kit -- only I don't know if the flywheel even fits the 420a. It says nothing about it on the site, and unlike CI, doesn't mention anything about the 420a, it just says "DSM" which usually refers to 4G63. I like MAPs prices, but CI is more descriptive. So if someone can assure me that this combo WILL FIT my car, this is def. the one I wanna go with.

Thanks for your help and keep in mind I need answers ASAP, I'm performing this work soon!

(I've already purchased a fork and fulcrum pivot ball to replace the old one, so no advice on that please.)

Fidanza makes a clutch and flywheel setup for the 420a but it's labeled as a modular clutch. I had a their 4 puck kevlar clutch in my car and it was fine. The only thing is they say you have to use a "95 neon style clutch" I called them about that and they said you need the 6 bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel and the 8 bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank out of a 95 dodge neon (don't ask, it worked but I still don't know if you can't reuse your stock bolts). Most performance clutches you're gonna find are gonna say you have to use their flywheel except for ACT but I don't think they make a clutch for the 420a yet. If you plan on hittin 400whp go with fidanza's 4.3 clutch kit and their flywheel (or any other clutch that uses the same materials that fidanza's kit uses). It's gonna be overkill on your car now but you're gonna need it when you're at 400whp down the road.

Fidanza kit:
Fidanza 4.3 Ceramic Clutch Kit (DSM) - Modern Automotive Performance

This is what I found on fidanza. Still doesn't say anything about the 420a, but whatever. Will this fit? I just want something that works, fits, and won't destroy my car in the meantime. If I get a clutch this strong it's not gonna hurt my car is it? Since I don't have all the engine mods yet. I haven't found anywhere it says anything about using neon bolts or anything... was that just when you called them? What site did you get yours off of? And with this kit, do I still need to get a flywheel or what? It doesn't say anything about being modular or anything like that. And I still can't find a site that sells flywheels for the 420a. Besides CI and I'm not gonna spend 400 bucks for it.

Also, what's wrong with the modular SPEC clutch kit (still rates at 400ft-lbs torque)? You said you used a modular from fidanza. Will it still hold the power I need it to?

Thanks

Ok so ive been doing tons of homework, right now im putting down close to 350hp at the wheels. This is my 3rd DSM,the first one i had had a centerforce clutch in it and it lasted as long as i had the car about 40k, ive been buying ACT clutches after so far ive been though 3 and every one of them have lasted around 10k miles. And on top of that master/slave cylinders have been replaced often with the ACT 2600.

ACT 2600 holds 400 ft. lbs of torque

Centerforce DF (I had to call them to get this info) Holds 385 ft. lbs of torque.

IMO for my next clutch im going back to centerforce, and as Dave Busher said "If you want clutch problems buy ACT" That is quoted directly from his web site.

IMO Buy centerforce till you go over 400ft lbs of torque after that get the QM twin clutch kit.

So Why is ACT better again? Thoughts on this topic?

I actually have a guy here in ny thats been building my clutches for years, they're hand made and reasonably priced, My clutch is sick and it doesnt kill my leg either. PM me if you want some more info and I'll get you prices and help you out with shipping if you want

just checked i actually have a pic of it on my phone i can text u if you want just pm a phone number

I actually had more problems with my centerforce then the act I put in its replacement. Not sure why but it just didn't hold the power I put down (275awhp) and my act still holds. IMO act worked great granted your clutch adjusted and working properly

OK what about this shimming of the pivot ball? Does this need to be done with all DSM clutches? and how much does it need to be shimmed, i read of on manufactures directions for installation and read nothing about shimming the pivot ball, but im reading many are doing so.

I have always trusted the guys at Center Force, They were in my home town in Prescott, AZ and lawyas helped me out They are nice guys and build a good product. As with any company, everybody will have their share of problems. A clutch will wear out, some faster than others. While some have good luck with center force others will hate them. Its all just a matter of preference. ACT is a nice clutch, center force is a nice clutch also. for me I like center force, my previous car, an SR20DET Powered 240SX didn't like the ACT much, but the center force i replaced it with held nice. just my .02

Anyone you call that's been in the game for a while will tell you the ACT 2600 is proven...but you need to make sure you get the latest design pressure plate with the beveled fingers as previous designs were flawed. Beware when buying from may distributors as LOTS have old design dead stock for cheaper...

The Centerforce is an amazing clutch however it doesn't do well with the power.

Its possible a hybrid of 3-6 puck disc with a Centerforce pp may be a good combo. The clamping load of the Centerforce I believe is in between the ACT 2100 / ACT 2600 type pp.

I remember when i had to buy a clutch for my car i've been reading all the threads i could find. I couldn't decide because everyone opinion is different...some recommend ACT...others Fidanza, CF...others a combo like ACT with Southbend disc or something similar. I ended up buying Fidanza 3.2...works good till now with my stock setup :D

I just pulled off my Clutchmasters set, and my ACT flywheel, and I can't complain for a used clutch set. It held up to a couple years of me launching at every chance I get, and probably almost a hundred drag passes. I think I'll buy another CM clutch this time, and change my driving habbits.

I think its about time foe a clutch in my 1995 talon, i want to go ahead and buy one and have it ready in case the stock clutch goes! What do you guys reccomend? I want something to handle about 400hp max. This is my every day driver so i dont want the clutch to be too extreme.

The ACT clutch kits are pretty tried and true among DSMers. I would recommend going with an ACT 2600 pressure plate and a street disc. The clutch pedal will definitely be stiffer and will take a little getting used to, but nothing you can't handle. :)

Actually, you might even be able to get away with an ACT 2100 pressure plate, the torque rating is 322 on the 2100 verse 400 on the 2600.

I have had a spec stage 2 clutch on my vr4 and stage 3 on my laser and have not had any problems with either one. I loved the design of the stage 2 clutch disc. Anyways the pedal was close to stock but grabbed really well. You can get them fairly cheap around 300 shipped. Mine have lasted 10k on vr4 and 22k on my talon, both still running good.

I had a 93 probe gt mostly stock. The clutch went out and at the time I was real big into ebay so I started searching around and went with a six puck race clutch from ebay. It did have a little of an "on" "off" feel to it but I got used to it quick. It turned out to be one of the best mods I've ever done to that car, I could really bang through the gears. Well a few years I bought a 95 GST and the clutch went out in it so I went with the same style clutch (from the exact same ebay seller) all n all I think the clutch lasted 2 months. The car was mostly stock and I babied it. If it was a probe I'd say go for it BUT with a hp goal like that an ebay clutch wouldn't last 2 days..

for all you ebay haters wtf have you bought from ebay? I think nothing.....keep retard comments off the the forums for guys like me who have bought items off ebay and have a legitimate review to offer.
