ok i am going to get a new clutch for my car. i was wandering which one i should go with. i was thinking of the act 2100. Dont think i want the 2600 because it is a daily driven car and will only go to the track a couple times a year. if there are some other brands you all would suggest let me know. i want a good streetable clutch for a cheap budget.

So it seems I need to get a new clutch . The clutch I have supposedly only has 9000 miles on it tops, so I'm not sure thats the problem (if you have an idea of what else might cause it please visit my other thread - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=246075).
But in case it is, I want to figure out what clutch would be best for my situation.

Here's the dilemma I'm stuck in:
I need to get a clutch that will hold 450hp (my target hp :thumb: ). I can't spend more than $450, and I have to find something that isn't too stiff because it has to be something my wife doesn't mind driving :shhh:.

What are my options?

I've got a Spec Stage 3. Really light pedal pressure. Not sure if it will hold 450 hp though. Check it out. I've heard the ACT 2900 has pretty light pedal pressure as well. Look into it.

act 2600 for sure...the pedal is not hard at all compared to my buddy's 2600...don't know why they have different pressures though they are the same clutch. once you drive it for a week, you won't even feel the pressure anymore.

Well the spec stage 2 clutch is supposed to hold up to 400 i believe. Im sure your stage three could hold up fine if you would actually put something on your car that made it a little quick LOL. The stage 3 would be good for that, and if youre not sure you could always get the stage 3+ or stage 4 (which may be excessive). http://titanmotorsports.com/miecandev.html this website has a very nice deal right now going on for clutches, its where i got my stage 2 and dreamon got his stage 3.... for the same price and now im kicking myself for it LOL.

ACT 2600 with street disk, it will hold that power and it isnt as stiff as everyone makes it out to be...its a great clutch.

I agree! I have the 2600 too and its not stiff at all. No stiffer than your stocker...:p well maybe a little...ROFL Your wife shouldn't have a problem with it though...:thumb:

So far I'm hearing:
  • a pretty loud vote for an ACT 2600
  • a couple votes for a Spec stage 3
  • and a Clutchmasters FX500 w/a 4 puck
A friend let me check out his 1G with an ACT 2600 yesterday evening. It seemed a little stiffer than I'm shooting for (too drastic of a change from my wife's Jetta :( ). He did however tell me that in a 2G its alot softer. Can anyone verify that from experience?

Thanks for the link :thumb:. I'll go check it out.

And as far as a flywheel, I don't think I can afford a new one with the clutch, but I hope to be able to get a new friction plate (I think thats the right term  ). BTW - I'm supposed to have a Fidanza aluminum flywheel in there. We'll see when I pull the tranny this weekend.

ExtremePSI has a package deal...ACT2600 w/ FIDANZA Flywheel combo for i think somewhere around $600...and their shipping is free. dish out another $150-$200 bucks from your target of $450 and you have a nice clutch with an aluminum flywheel. I hope to get this once Christmas rolls around

Yes, the 2g has a lighter pressure feel. I never liked the puck type clutches in anything, they always seem to chatter and don't slip well breaking drive train parts and being a touch to grabby.

ILLiclipse, an ACT2600 w/ FIDANZA Flywheel combo for around $600 seems to be a great deal, especially with free shipping. The problem with that, tho, is the way I calculated that target budget:

$150 - money I currently have :(
+$250 - sale of my Spearco FMIC to a local friend next week
+ $50- money I will somehow pull out of my butt OMG in the next few days
$450

I don't think I can make more than the $50 dollars appear. But I do appreciate the recommendation. If someone is interested in buying a Pioneer AVIC-N2 for $700-ish, I might sell that so I can finish this project. I just don't want to do that until I have no other option - I bought it to install in this car and it is still sitting in the corner of my room waiting for an alarm (what the above money was SUPPOSE to be for).

Tyler - thanks for the info.

So far, everyone seems to really recommend the ACT 2600. However, the Spec stage 3 from Titan Motorsports looks really appealing at only $289 :rocks:. Anyone know a reason why I shouldn't go with it?

98gst62 - which stage Spec clutch did you run? Was it on your current setup?

Thanks to everyone so far for the feed back. It seems like the ACT 2600 is THE clutch to get. But unless I can find a new one for $360 or less (gotta be able to afford flywheel work in that $450) it looks like a Spec stage 3 ($289) or stage 4 ($294) or an SBR 3500 ($359) is what I'll be getting.

Check your PM's for information on where I buy my clutches from. You'll save a pretty penny and get the real deal.

Good luck,

Andy

Thanks to everyone for your help :thumb:. I will be pulling the tranny this weekend (hopefully) to confirm the clutch is the problem, then I'll be ordering next week. From the looks of it, there is hope that I will have enough money to get an ACT 2600. :rocks:
