ok i am going to get a new clutch for my car. i was wandering which one i should go with. i was thinking of the act 2100. Dont think i want the 2600 because it is a daily driven car and will only go to the track a couple times a year. if there are some other brands you all would suggest let me know. i want a good streetable clutch for a cheap budget.

i say 2100 for fwd and 2600 for awd, and get a fidanza flywheel. Replace your tranny fluid and throwout bearing. I got mine from prostreetonline the kit without the flywheel and fluid for 364.50 shipped to my doorstep :thumb:

I agree^^^^. I went with and ACT 2100 and XACT flywheel (and Mitsu throw-out). It really holds power to the ground and I'm pleased with it. :thumb:

I disagree with everyone above. I beleive the single best solution to a replacement clutch (in most mildly modified dsms) is a clutch that uses upgraded discs instead of heavy duty pressure plates. Simply put the pressure plate is near stock and the disc used has a higher friction coefficient. One of the main causes of premature thrust bearing wear is high clamp loads from clutch pressure plates that have been upgraded.. also the clutches using higher grade discs keep a stock pedal feel. Of course this is based on opinion. Clutches that use this kind of technology can be found at www.unorthodoxracing.com and www.southbendclutch.com. Also these applications often outlive the high pressure plate type clutches and have no abstract effects on your thrust bearing (which is at least a mentionable problem from 2g dsms).

im not doing my own as i dont know what i am doing well enough to make sure its done right.

Get a local DSMer who DOES know what they're doing to come over and help you with the installation. Not necessarily have them do the installation for you, but help guide you through the process and give tips for stuff. That's what I'll be doing in a few months when I order my clutch kit :)

Hey im working on it, if you check in the northeast section of the forums, im on there 3 times asking for a local dsmer to help me out..no luck yet.

well ill be going with the act 2100, but im still not sure about the flywheel. should i keep the stock one or upgrade it? also should i use a oem throwout bearing or the one that comes with the 2100

If you can afford it, go with a new flywheel. At the very least, you'll need to resurface the stock one if you are going to keep it.

The stock throw out is best. Don't use the original stock one, but get a new stock one. My ACT actually came with OEM throw out (some places will do that).

Stock Flywheels weigh about ~19lbs....
RRE's Stock Lightened Flywheel weighs in at ~14lbs.
ACT's XACT Streetlite weighs about ~11lbs, but doesn't have a replaceable friction surface like the Fidanza's....

Fidanza's weigh in at about ~9lbs.... w/replaceable friction surface....
I think the Fidanza's are pretty light, but I've never driven a car with a lightened flywheel, so I'm open to a schooling from anyone out there....

For now I'll go with the XACT.... it's right in the middle of stock and racing light flywheels.....

Yes, i was about to say, before you decide to get the Act Clutch kit, do research on price and which one comes with the OEM TOB, I heard that nowadays they come with it so no need to replace them, if not all act, then some, do some research though on that. my 2 1/2 cents... :D

I run a 2600 in my TSi fwd. I love it. It's tough, at least mine was, to adjust and get the engagement right but I love it. I used to have a probe w/a ZE and bolt-ons. I ran a clutchmaster stage 3 (segmented kevlar) and hated it. I love the feel of the ACT compared to the CM. I don't think the 2600 is very heavy either, a lot of people complain about that.
As far as lightened flywheels go I'm a little hesitant. I don't like the idea of a 2600lb clutch grabbing a 9lb flywheel. The stresses included in there have to be insane. The pro w/a lighter flywheel is of course better acceleration in the lower gears and more throttle response (at least that's how it felt in my probe). However, what you gain in the lower gears you lose in the higher gears. I just don't see much of a gain w/the lighter flywheels. Maybe a lightened stock one, but a 9lb or even some 7lb'ers I don't think are worth it. And traction is already tough for me, let alone throwing a lightweight flywheel in teh equation.

If you have a fwd get a 2100 it will more than do the job. Plus i wouldn't get a clutch without a flywheel too. I got an act 2100 w/ XACT flywheel and it's just damn amazing! I also got a mb lsd insert so now i get traction too :thumb:

:talon: My stock clutch just went out on my AWD turbo talon so I'm going to have to replace it with a performance one. My mods are an intake and MBC. I'm going to have a turboback exhaust system put on in about a month. What clutch should I get? I was looking at the ACT 2600 but wasn't sure if that was for me. Also where is a good place to get fast shipping online for them? :talon:

Do you plan on taking your car to the strip at all? If your going to race at all i would suggest the ACT 2600. I've also heard good things about the Center Force Dual Friction on a dsm as well. As far as vendors check out www.prostreetonline.com. They are usually the cheapest, or you could buy a slightly used one in the classifieds.

For an AWD, I almost always recommend a 2600.

I would call my GST mild and its at the limits of the 2100. I really need to put in a 2600.

Remember the GST is an FWD. If it was an AWD, then the 2100 would be toast.

Also have a 92 AWD Talon. I run a 2600 in that.

Between the two, the 2600 is much more fun to drive. The 2100 is too wimpy. The 2600 allows you to feel car much better. I would rather drive a 2600 any day over a 2100.

2600.
