ok i am going to get a new clutch for my car. i was wandering which one i should go with. i was thinking of the act 2100. Dont think i want the 2600 because it is a daily driven car and will only go to the track a couple times a year. if there are some other brands you all would suggest let me know. i want a good streetable clutch for a cheap budget.

xact will be great for it.

i heard the fidanza since it's so light sometimes causes stalling when the clutch is pressed in and the rpms drop to idle....the car about dies is what i heard due to the weight being too light.

i also heard that there is sometimes fitment problems and it must be heated to get it to seat correctly.

i have heard nothing but good things about the XACT. I also speak from personal experience, it is the bomb and you will notice the gains. rpms match your shift points and you are taking off instead of the rpms dipping like it does with the stocker.

plus since you have a act clutch, it will be perfectly stepped i believe right out of the box with no worries.

go ACT on both is my 2 cents bro.

For AWD definetly go with the ACT... I chose it because of that and due to the fact that ACT had the perfect stepping and was a direct bolt on.

Ive seen quite a bit of whoo-rah for the ACT 2600 and 2100 and some very negative things.

Now Im no clutch expert but Im looking for a clutch that is gonna last for 3-5yrs. This clutch will used for mostly street driving and ocassionally for the 1/4 mile.

Aside from ACT who else makes good clutches for DSM's?

well it depends on how modded your car is. Lets say you have a 16G and basic supporting mods then a ACT 2100 w/ a street disc will be more than enough for an occasional trip to the drag strip. If you go bigger like a 20G or T3/T4 than a ACT 2600 w/ a street or heavy duty disc should be good.

Don't worry yourself about it. Just get an ACT 2600 and if you happen to wear the disc out then just replace the disc. The plates tend to last a long time unless you're a serious racer. The only other choice I would consider is a stock plate with an ACT 6-puck disc. These two combos are so proven that I see little reason in bothering with anything else.

Was wondering why everyone says " Just get the 2600" I am building my car for like 14b or 16g at max of 275fwhp. Will a 2100 last a long time?

People say get the 2600 because there is room for furthur modification. The exact ratings for the 2100 is 322 tq and the 2600 is rated for 400 tq as per the 2003 ACT catalogue. Many people will also suggest the 2600 for the AWD cars because of the hard launches that they usually endure. I have the 2100 on my FWD and couldn't be happier, yes this means that I will only be able to run 322 tq. but with my car being a 2G 7 bolt I have the added dilemma of crankwalk, the 7 bolt can crankwalk with a stock clutch, add a whole lot of clamping force and thus "disengage" pressure will only complicate matters. Right now this car is my primary source of transportation and being a college student I am not fond of the idea of having to replace my motor due to crankwalk. With a 1g 6 bolt you don't have this crankwalk problem, so going with a stiffer clutch would make sense, you only real choice would then be what pedal pressure you would like to deal with. The 2100 seems a bit stiffer than the stock clutch but comfortable enought for bumper to bumper traffic. With the 2600 you will be looking at a pedal pressure that will be much harder. A clutch is something that you only want to do once, you have the headway with the 6 bolt to get the 2600 and I think that this is the route people are going to advise you to take. Your point about your conservative mod list won't hold water because chances are you will wander from this plan and thirst for more hp and tq once you start modding.

I'd get a 2600..

I bought my pressure plate used for all of $75..

Run an ACT street disk.. or if you have tons of power go with a SPEC carbon or SBC feramic disk.

I think its time for a new clutch for me. Im still on the stock clutch & I am noticing my clutch dieing out. It has become very frustrating for me and trying to race anybody with this clutch is useless, since ive already had to go through a head rebuild when i was trying to shift to 4th and it went into 2nd instead. Which clutch in your oppinion would be a wise choice?? I was looking at the ACT 2600 and so far its the one im considering but wuts your oppinion??

most people would say thats the best choice. I plan on getting th 2600 also, simply b/c the cost for the upgrade from 2100 to 2600 is not much at all.

I had an act2600 in my old gst, It NEVER slipped.

I got a tsi now and I got an act2600 for this car too. The only thing that I could think of that would be a negative for anyone is if they dont like the pedal pressure, It is a bit harder to push the clutch in. Other then that, I think the 2600 is a great clutch and worth the money.

Well I originally wanted to go w/the ACT 2600 but 350 which is the price I can get it at is a little much for my pockets right now. I was looking for something around the rang of 200-250 so I can have a little money left over. Are there any other clutches out there for a bit cheaper that do the trick but don't break quickly? I had a deal, 125 for an exedy clutch but my friend told me they break quickly but that they are good clutches. Should I just stop being cheap and go for the ACT 2600?

Feramic, i think ams carrys them, there 330 bucks? supposed to be good into the 11's, its a stock pressure plate and a sinted iron disk.

yeah i am in same boat. I was thinking CF clutch . Alot of people say ACT but i have read about 20 threads talkng about them braking up . Little worried about that. ALOT of the springs falling out and such.

hey guys,

have a 98gst, and getting ready to finally replace the stock clutch. I was just wondering which one is the best. I have been hearing all these stories on how horrible the ACT clutches are. Is there any other recomendations??? And if so i am also looking for a lightweight flywheel, any suggestions??

Give me your inputs guys???

thanks

i got a 4 button, 4 puck ceramic clutch. works great with lots of power and still has the stock pedal feel
