ok i am going to get a new clutch for my car. i was wandering which one i should go with. i was thinking of the act 2100. Dont think i want the 2600 because it is a daily driven car and will only go to the track a couple times a year. if there are some other brands you all would suggest let me know. i want a good streetable clutch for a cheap budget.

If your keeping the stock turbo and its a daily driver, Go 2100. If u have plans in the future of going bigger and better go for the 2600.

The 2600 can stand up to repeated hard launches. :thumb: I think it just depends on how hard you drive your car and how often you drive it hard.

I noticed on slowboyracing.com that they were advertising a clutch setup with the same or better clamping force of the 2600, but with a lot less pedal effort. I haven't heard of anyone using one of these but it might be what you're after.

Be sure to look up taboo's site (taboospeedshop.com) for info on the 2600 and how to adjust it properly. He also makes a bad ass billet clutch fork which I'd recommend if you go with the 2600. He also sells a longer clutch slave cylinder rod that might be a good idea to get that too.

I'd also shim the pivot ball and get a stainless clutch line.

When installing the clutch make sure the person knows what they're doing because it makes a world of difference. A clutch can be an expensive fix just make sure you make an informed decision and you won't go wrong.

For the my setup (mods in profile) I am trying to decide between the ACT 2100 clutch kit and 2600 clutch kit. I don't race or launch a whole lot, but want something that performs better than stock. I also do quite a bit of city driving, so I don't want something that is going to make my leg fall off after sitting in traffic. Any recommendations, reviews, advice? Thanks in advance

Will :talon:

I had the same question as you a few months ago, have most of the mods you do, and I don't race/launch much/at all either. I got an ACT2100 and XACT flywheel and have no complaints. Everything hooks up well when I do get on it a bit... and both of my legs are still the same size  :p

I say get the 2600 that way if you want to launch it and slam on it you can and the pedal pressure is not that dramatic ( i dont think so)

i've got the 2600, and the increased pedal pressure isn't that bad...at least i don't think so. It actually makes the car feel more responsive, and it never slips. I don't drag or beat on my car a lot, usually just drive around slowly unless i'm racing. IMO it's worth having in case you do run into a race. If you don't want the increased pedal pressure, try a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. A step above the 2100, with no increased pedal pressure.

i dunno.. when im stuck in gridlocked freeway traffic with the speed going up and down constantly.. I begin to lose feeling in my foot .. wishing I had a stock clutch then. LOL

Tis' why I have my winter beater my Heep! :D

Well i have a 93 Eclipse GSX with minor mods (intake/exhaust/MBC set to 14psi(soon)) and Obviously Christmas blessed me with some money. I'm looking ot spend under $600 for both. I don't want a ACT 2600, maybe something a little cheaper, but better.

Any ideas?

if you really don't want the 2600, get the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, ClutchMasters FX100 or SlowboyRacing's own 3500, but i havn't heard much about on those last two.

Here's another quetions: Do I need a new flywheel if I go with the ACT2600? What would the flywheel do? And if I didn't have one what would be the "downside"?

You do not need a new flywheel with the act2600, Unless you see stress cracks or something wrong with your flywheel. You will hafto get it re-surfaced though. Which does not cost alot at all, I think they charged me $30.00 or less.

If you get a lightened flywheel, Your car will rev alittle faster, Depending on how lite you go, Will depend on how fast it will rev. You will notice quicker throttle response and alittle faster spool up. When launching, You will hafto rev your car alittle bit higher then you did with the stock flywheel.

I have the streetlight fly w/2600 lb pp, and absolutly love it! But the new Slowboy clutch kit sounds like it gets the job done well, and I haven't gotten anything from from SBR thats junk. :thumb:
As for the flywheel, you don't need a light weight aftermarket to work with the clutch kits, but it sure makes the car fun to rev up and launch at 6k.

The clutch really doesn't engage any harder then a 2600. The disk simply has a Higher coefficient of friction which enables the clutch to bite harder when it gets hot. so in application you can slip the clutch a little and wait for it to bite. It does wonders for your 60 foot. I am currently out of stock of these little guys. I ordered 10 from the manufacturer but all were placed on order before they even got here. so now I have another batch on its way here. If you are interested in the clutch please call the shop and place your order now before they get here. Thanks again

Eric
how much for a set?

just wonder what clutch and pressure plate to throw in, i found out my problem is a worn clutch, so i wondering what you guys recommend, i have a Evo 16g(clipped and ported) 550cc injectors, low-14psi high-18psi, exhaust, etc...

I have a act 2600 sitting next to my bed, and i heard alot of good stuff about it so there is my vote, get a 2600 from act, street disc and you won't have a problem anymore :D

Also slowboy sells a variant of the competition clutch under their own name. I believe it is a 2500lb pressure plate from the "ironman" series, but it comes with a street disc instead of a sintered iron 6( I think) puck. I have one now, just haven't completed the 6-bolt swap, but i will post as soon as I get it up and running.

*EDIT* This probably belongs in the "Drivetrain/Tranny" sub-forum.

yeah i dont need a 6 puck like the car came with because its my daily driver and i need a streetable clutch that can hold this kind of power... :thumb:
