Woodbury,
I am looking at replacing my BOV. I was looking at the Greddy XS, but I seem to be seeing people with Greddy problems aplenty. What BOV do you like? Why?

Also, what is a safe PSI for a stock turbo? I hear rumors that anything beyond 14 will raise hell on the engine.

Thanks for your help!

I was wondering if anyone would explain what is the points of having springs in the tial bov's? Oh btw, Ive got an hks ssq but for a 1g setup uicp with couplers, anyone?

That would most likely work on my car, I think?
I have a 6-bolt swap ? send me a picture

I have a slightly crushed 1g BOV and the thing sounds like a ching sound, almost like a sword battle when it blows off. sounds like pshhhhhh-ching. I can hear that thing with windows rolled all the way up and with the radio going slightly ;)

I'm gonna throw in a vote for the Greddy Type-S. They can be had very cheap and are the FnF sound that all the Honduhs (I eat Type-R with VTEC sauce) stare at. I recirc it and it still is very loud. My .02.

I have had 3 bov's on my car. 1g, Turbo XS type-h and a greddy Type-S. The type-H was the loudest when I was venting and my car ran like crap. It sounded like a long psssshhhhh that remained constant. The 1g bov did the same thinig that had more of a woosh to it. Greddy has a real signature sound like Tial, its like a more sharp lazery sound that gets different with more/lest boost. I like the greddy alot. It sounds pretty hardcore.

I gave a HKS Stage 2 and its really fawking loud, but unless you run like 18+ psi it flutters because it is so stiff..... But it sounds awesome. And you can recirculate it. But its $500 so not many people get it. But it will hold like 60 psi no problem. :tease:

Yea I have access to purchae the HKS Racing BOV Type II, but I never heard anyone use it on DSMs, that and I don't feel like changing the flange. Thus my want for a Greddy Type R.

Do you have any videos/sound clips of the bov?

No i dont. What could I use to make a sound clip? I dont have a video camera that i can use to put shit on the computer i have the old kind that record onto casette type tapes. ROFL I also have a digital camera that takes video with no sound. maybe my cell phone can do it.... Ill try and get back to you.

Yes my cell phone will take a video with sound... So as soon as my car is put back together i will get a video and post it. should be next weekend :thumb: I will also need someone to post it... that or ill try to put it on streetfire.net

thanks guys:rocks:
that Video is sweet :thumb: im for sure gonna get a HKS now,
Does anyone know anything about the Fake HKS you see for sale does it still sound the same ?

A friend of mine was running the Monza HKS knockoff BOV and I thought it sounded just like an HKS... until we put my SSQV on his car just to see if there was a difference.

His unsteady idle was fixed, it also held enough boost to blow off a coupler.

As for the sound. They sounded similar, although the HKS almost sounded like it let the air out faster and sounded a bit meaner. (Hope that makes sense.)

i wanna get a bov but theres like 50000 and so many different reasons to get each one........i want one thats as loud as possible while still not hurting my boost or w/e
also whats the highest i should go for boost with a mostly stock tsi......without logging software...............im getting a new turbo, a logger, fuel upgrades....ect but i dont have enough time before a track day i wanna go to so i was just wondering about the boost...dont want to strain anything too much!
thanks for the help!:talon:

I'm partial to Greddy BOV's They seem to be the best bet for the money and do there job. :thumb: The Type S sounds like a metallic bird and the RS is a mean pshhh even vented back into the intake they're fairly loud.

Ok i have a 90 GSX 3" exhaust no cats, 3" intake, Data logger, Fuel Pump Rewire, and have done all the freebies. I know that the OEM BOV is very good, but im wanting to start modding this thing now. So as of now i have the stock UICP but i have a hard UICP. im wanting to get another BOV but not wanting to crush the OEM. Ive been reading a lot between the Greddy type S and Type RS. I also find these both on ebay for like 60 new shipped but im kinda worried about what they are going to send me. im not wanting to spend anything over like $100 so is there a such BOV? and also how easy is the install? Thanx

Those BOV's on ebay are fake. They are rip-off's and are known to be bad. I would suggst a real Type RS. Good bov, holds a lot, doesn't leak, but no good BOV is going to cost 100 or less unless it is used. At this stage you would probably be best off keeping your 1g and spending the money elsewhere.

Chad,

I had a bad experience with a cheap ebay BOV Greddy type for $40 which i refer to as BOBO (No name brand goods). I finally spent the money and bought a Apexi and it's 100% better than the BOBO.

if you low on a Budget you can buy a 1g BOV for 25 to 40 bucks, i did and im very happy it has ahearable type S ssspppppss sound to it, basicaly a mini type s the 1g bov

edit: you have a 1g bov already ........ hhhmmzzz

Those deals are always too-good-to-be-true kinda things. But I'm curious, what went wrong with your ebay BOV? I always look at those deals and don't bite, but I'd love to hear from someone who bought one and how it worked (or didn't) for them.

Buy a Greddy Type RS....great bov...if u feel like venting it like an idiot u can do it...wont run u too rich...ive experimented LOL

HKS ssqv is a good bov, had it for a while now and works awsome, plus its always closed so it wont leak at idle or cause bad idle if you want to vent, im not encouraging you to vent at all but its just a suggestion.

definately go with the HKS ssqv sounds sick as hell and my car ran fine when i had mine on vented. i ran a greddy rs vented and it ran so rich in between shifts it almost died at times and did a few times ;). the greddy didn't leak and was cheap but you can't hear it when its recirc.... :( vented it doesn't sound good at all....
