Woodbury,
I am looking at replacing my BOV. I was looking at the Greddy XS, but I seem to be seeing people with Greddy problems aplenty. What BOV do you like? Why?

Also, what is a safe PSI for a stock turbo? I hear rumors that anything beyond 14 will raise hell on the engine.

Thanks for your help!

Ok, like I said. I have the HKS SSQV, and I also purchased the HKS recirculation kit.

Now, if I feel like going out and raising hell, i'll vent. The HKS kit comes with a plug for your intake, only problem is, the plug fits the stock intake hole diameter, not the Injen intake. So, I just cut a stock recirculation s-hose, and inserted the plug, and it is held together with hose clamps. Works very well. No leaks.

If I want to recirculate, I put the hose that came with the HKS recirc kit on the BOV and route it to the intake, there I use a coupler. The HKS tube, and the Injen inlet are the same diameter, it wont fit over it. Sounds difficult, but its the easiest way I've seen to vent, or recirculate the HKS, just keep the spare pieces in your glove box. Takes 5 min tops :thumb: sorry for the dull pics, used my phone.

I had a GReddy Type-S on my 2g TSi and I had it venting. The car had idle issues with that bov. The 1g TSi AWD I had was running an HKS SSQ and it had no idle problems. I have noticed the same results with my MX-6 turbo. The Type S caused it to idle poor where the HKS did not.

who has the best deal in town for a HKS SSQ? i am very interested my friend has it on his SRT-4 and its sick as hell. THX

ok im looking on edo performance and i see the hks BOV universal fit for $190 but thats just for the BOV right? how come the eclipse one is $260+? wat else does it come with piping? recurculation kit??? also i looked for the "MONZA" and it apears it is the knock off of the HKS does anybody else have\recomend this very cheap alternative? THX

wow, that is the way it works when you take a CBV and vent it. the HKS does not bleed air at idle, the type s does unless you crank it way down HARD.

not a problem if you are recirculating like you should.

I ran a stock 1G CBV until I switched to a fully built, 25 psi MAFT blow-through set up.
There's a lot of monkey spankin' going on here with "blow off valves".

all the bovs people have mention.. greddy type r, type s, type rs.. hks ssqv, 1g bov, tial, etc
they are all great bovs that have worked well for numerous DSM owners.. a handful will have their complaints about each one.. but dont let that discourage your decision.. because that handful will not reflect the large amount of those who have success with theirs..

i have a hks super sqv blowing off a evo 16g ported i paid about $325 for it a year ago and its been nothing but good to me (no recirc no idle problems) but they do make a recirc kit for it but if i didnt want to hear it i would have gotten a 1g
the good thing about the hks though is it has dual chambers it flutters when letting off low boost so it doesent let too much out so you can keep a steady charge and at high boost the second chamber is used and it sounds tight i wont talk about other bovs that ive used because im not a shit talker in most cases but i will say that in my opinion HKS knows more about how a turbo works and has the quality and knowledge that i look for when looking for upgrades
For more in detail information check out this link you can tell they know what they're doing

what does the old style and new style blitz bov look like? i have one but do not know if i should use it instead of my 1g bov? the 1g is good for what i have now, but i have always liked the sound of the blitz ones and one of my friends gave it to me for free. i was wondering if i could bolt it onto the 1g bov flange? it looks like it just might bolt on.
thanks for the replies and batgirl do not forget to get a boost gauge.

For your N/T?

If you are venting to the atmosphere, they all pretty much sound the same. Your turbo and psi will affect how it sounds more.

umm...there's just a tad bit of difference in how a ssqv sounds compared to a greddy :shhh:

EDIT: here's short vid of the first night I had my turbo on...aka the only night  right as we take off, I lose traction in second and you can kinda hear my ssqv as I punch it into third. then of course I spiked like 12 or so pounds, so you can also make out the smoke behind my car

On a boosted 2GNT, I happen to like the way the Turbo XS RFL sounds. It's cool when car alarms go off or people jump at the sound of the boost whip cracking next to them in traffic. LOL.

i love the tial bov its got a sound all of its own, not to mention one of the larger exit bores on the market, dont forget they are there for more than just sounds.

For me, they are all about the sound. I will never have one on my 2GNT. Were I planning on modding the GVR4, I would consider getting that MAFT so I could run the TiAl to atmo. I had considered that when I started buying turbo parts for the 2GNT about 18 months ago, but now, it's just not going to happen any time soon for me. :p

I think the average 2GNTer with a turbo can make do with the 3oooGT BOV that came with their kit. The type of tuners who require more than that are capable of making this decision on their own, based on their needs, leaving the rest of the posts more concerned with sound and looks.

Then again, assumption is the mother of all #### ups, so...
