Woodbury,
I am looking at replacing my BOV. I was looking at the Greddy XS, but I seem to be seeing people with Greddy problems aplenty. What BOV do you like? Why?

Also, what is a safe PSI for a stock turbo? I hear rumors that anything beyond 14 will raise hell on the engine.

Thanks for your help!

I say just stay with your 1g bov for now. There's no sense in spending the money to replace something thats aready great until the car actually needs a better bov.

According to most of the mechanics I've spoken with, almost everyone seems to agree with leaving BOVs stock on most turbo cars. Of course none of these guys are DSM specialists, so I can't say anything for the eclipse, but almost every mechanic I've spoken with has told me that installing a BOV on a turbo car (when vented to the atmosphere) basically reduces the life of your turbo.

Venting to the atmosphere will kill a dsm faster then an aftermarket bov will kill the turbo.

1g bov is great for holding boost. Unless you want something noisier, stick with the one you have.

Sorry guy, I didn't know that you had a 2g b/c your profile said you had a '92. Anyway, in that case, I would recommend just a GReddy Type S. It is pretty cheap and it is adjustable and it recirulates.

You can get a new one here at RRE for $230 with a $27 adapter kit.

Anyway, my $.02

Good luck Man

i now have a 95 eclipse GSX...but that's good to knoe. Would all that be the same for a 2g???

No. The 2nd gen bov leaks. The first gen bov is a good upgrade for the 2nd gen DSMs. I have ran a 1st gen bov since my car was 2 months old and I couldn't be happier. The stock upper intercooler pipe has a restriction in it where it comes back into the engine bay. Many vendors sell a replacement pipe that is already flanged for a 1st gen bov. Adaptors are also available that let you put the 1st gen bov on your existing uicp.

venting won't necessarily kill the engine. It will run rich between shifts and will affect gas fuel ecocomy. In addition, a high quality Blow off valve/Diverter valve will not kill a turbo. Ofcourse, i'm not refering to the cheap knock-offs on ebay that any fool can make on a milling machine or CNC. These guys are mechanics, not engineers. :dsm:

yeah even when i did my FMIC and all hard piping i stuck with the 1g blow off valve i have had a few after market one's and they all ended up leaking this is the only one that has lasted and its the cheapest one too

You go with a HKS SSQV. It's the best BOV out right now, and you'll never build a engine that's to powerful for it.

Pretty much any BOV with an adjustment screw blows. Everyone I know with a type-S adjusts theirs every other day because its always making funny noises and not opening correctly under low boost and stuff. There is no reason NOT to get a 1g BOV. They are cheap, work well, and you don't need to adjust them or anything.

im getting a BOV soon what is the best brand for the best price...ive read all the guides but want an opinion from someone who knows....i dont want one that vents air to the atmosphere....please leave any reviews or suggestions...thanks

best for best price is a 1g bov... 40bucks and wont leak up to about 20psi, some even better... although they arent that loud... nicest sounding bov is the hks sequential (meanest) or the greddy type S (sweetest)...

thanks...so what one should i get that wont leak, sounds good, and wont cost much....im not gonna go past 20 psi but i want something that wont leak and sounds good under 150 bucks if i can....i dont want to have to get flanges or whatever either...basically i need something easy to install...thanx

I'm using the Greddy TypeR and it works Awsome, it holds all the boost you throw at it(once properly adjusted). I had the TurboSmart valve before and had nothing but problems with it.

Just kiddin. Get the HKS SSQV, you can then buy the recirculation kit from them, and then just vent or recirc it whenever you please, all you need is a screwdriver and 5 mins. I will post some quick pics of how I do it. Doesnt leak, and the sound is great.

if you dont have to recirculate it, the tial 50mm bov is amazing. I used that on my corrado race car and have nothing but good things to say about it. My 1g came with a greddy type s on it, really dont like it, but i think im going to go with the greddy type r

for under 150 i would say get 1g bov. recirculated will hold to 20 psi w/out any problems.

but if you want to spend like 25-30 dollars more. get a greddy type-s or hks ssqv both are proven to be the great bov's. i have a type-s on mine i love it!!! :D like DSMjrv said the sweetest bov. my friend has the hks ssqv and its true it sounds mean. :thumb: . but i like the type-s a bit more.

all three will require a flange though.
