Which Aftermarke Air Filter? K&N? eBay? [Merged 11-7]

I'm going to get a K&N air filter, eventually. I also plan to make my own cold air intake out of PVC pipe. I want to know what size air filter would be best?

They do have specific filters for specific cars, pep boys should carry K&N for exact fitment of a 1G E/T?L. However I picked my Accel Kool Blue up on Ebay brand new for like $32 shipped and its very comparable and looks purty. The PVC Intakes a fun idea I made one myself outta some 3" PVC and some chopped 45 degree bends.
 
How would I work? The MAF is attached to the back of the air can. I don't have a blow through. So wouldn't I have to get the one just above those? The 1g direct replacement one. If I had a blow through MAF I could just get the 9" long one and use a UICP and stick that on the end of that. But, I have no blow through. Me and my dad are gunna go get a MAF out of a 1g from a junk yard and see if there isn't a way we could mod it so we could have it sit in the same place but allow us to extend the intake pipe down into the fend or down into the bumper so it can get better air flow. If all goes well and it works I will do a write up on it. But that IF it works. I don't know how it would help performance wise, I guess I'll just wait and see if I do it or not. Everyone that I know thinks I'm going to blow up my car with all ,y crazy idea's. :laugh:

You see how I have mine done in my sig right. Just buy a stock replacement sized K&N. Here's a couple companies selling them online.

What I did was completely chop the can off leaving only the lip, so that I had a tight clamp on the filter. Most people just use the stock clamps, and clamp the filter down, without the lip of the old can. But if your using the stocker rubber tubing, you probably wanna just wanna cut away alot of the can so that only the lip and the mounting points remain. Whatever you decide good luck!
 
I searched around and found no good answers to my question: Which is the best air filter for my 1G Turbo DSM? I'm going to use my car as a daily driver and I'm going to change the MAS to a better one. I want to buy an air filter which I can use even if my car will once have more power than stock...

Not too sure about the HKS. Most DSMers use K&N, you cant lose with a K&N. I do know that there was a thread about air-fliters a while back, and someone posted a link with dyno results from many popular air filters. Try to find it, it'll help you.
 
I currently have an Apexi air filter....when i compared mine to a friend's K&N ...it's so small...theirs like fit the whole area...should i stick with my Apexi? or go K&N?...

1) Current Apexi or buy K&N
2) Which K&N..does it matter?
3) How often am I suppose to clean my filter?

The air filter only needs to be big enough to easily flow the CFM that you need. Most air filter suppliers have the factors you need to calculate all that. Then compare it with the model you have.
