hey guys im looking for a good air filter and what you guys paid for it. i called advanced auto parts, and they wanted 40 bucks for a K and N, which i thought was a little pricey. maybe im wrong, so thats why im asking. thanks

ok thanks, i guess ill go buy that one. i got one more question though. if i do the free mod, and remove the cansiter, should i be worried about water or something else getting in there?

I'd be concerned about water getting into your intake only if you had installed a cold air intake, which isn't your case. Simply fab yourself a heatshield and everything's gonna be fine.

BTW. K&N don't go any cheaper than 40-50$

$35.00 cause the place I got it from ordered me the wrong one twice. My uncle says the same thing about getting water in there. I dunno about you guys, but I don't go off roading in mud or rivers up to my doors. Even with CAI, I know 1 person that sucked up water and that was because he wasn't paying attention and decided to drive though a bunch of standing water that came up to the bottom of his doors.

$40 for the drop in is a pretty good price for a K&N, i paid about $36 for this universal because my friend is the store manager at napa.

My filter is completly a cold air piece sitting where the original sidemont once was. I am not worried abut water since I avoid driving in the rain. However I have the original shield for the IC outlet intalled behind the filter and can easily fab something for underneath it. Front could be easily covered too. I like the idea of my turbo starting to compress air that is probably 50* less than underhood air. Mark
PS: K&N are filtering with oil which is water resistant also. If I got into an 8 hour drive in pouring rain there could be an issue.

i need to buy a new air filter for my aem intake, does anyone know the cheapest place to get one?

K&N dont get anything else

Shucks, AutoZone, any auto place. Napa even carrys them. hell some Audio shops even carry K&N

BTW you need to post in the Newbie section. I suggest it be moved there..

yeah thanks, i know its kind of a newbie question but i went to autozone and some other shop and they said the cone shaped filters have to be special ordered. i went to the aem site and they say you just have to clean the filter periodically and it should last "the life of your car" but mine is dirty as hell so i def think i need a new one.

If your filter is just dirty, but does not have any holes or anything, then you should buy the K&N Filtercharger kit. You can buy it at almost any parts stores. It has a cleaning solvent to clean the filter with water, then you let it dry out and re-oil it with the oil the kit comes with. The kit is pretty cheap and you can use it several times. Should save you some money.

Hi I had to clean my Injun air filter last week and when it was drying out i installed another filter i purchased on e-bay for $19. The crazey thing about it is the cheep e-bay filter performed better than the more expensive Injun air filter $40. My throttle responce was better, the turo spooled up faster, the engine pulled harder. I want the best filter for my car, what would you guys do ?

... Is just a filter... I suggest to stick with K&N and not waste too much time worrying about it, don't spend too much money a filter (i've seen some filters for 250dollars! crazy waste of money!) because an Air filter is just a filter that traps dirt so a clean air goes through.. Basicly what I think happen is your old Injen* filter was very dirty and had a poor air flow and with the ebay sense is new it has a better air passage.

Pretty much, now that you clean the Injen filter and you should have the same 'performance' as the ebay filter. Ebay filters aren't any better. Filter is a filter just make sure is oily to trap the dirt

Or you can run without a filter at all and get the ultimate throttle response your motor is capable off, that is until you suck something up and destroy a turbo.

But in all seriousness.......I would tend to agree with what's already been said, your old filter was either dirty or was made from a denser material. I would probably go with "it was just dirty" myself.

Regular maintenance is the key to making any car operate for longer periods of time. Everyone wants a car that looks good and is fast, but far to often they forget about the boring everyday service/maintenance portion until something breaks or is no longer working correctly.

Your average "grocery getter" requires maintanance.....a sports car requires more maintenance than the previous.....and a modded car requires constant maintenance.

Lack of maintenance is what turns a good car into a POS.

It's never a bad idea to write yourself a maintenance schedule for your car, especially if it's been modified. I know the dealer made one, but that's really just generalized. Your car would be better served if you had a list of items that are checked or replaced at certain intervals based more on how you drive/modded your car as opposed to what the dealer "thought" you were going to do.

You could always put on some decently small holed mesh over the bare intake pipe. If you put some wax very neatly on the mesh it will make lots of stuff stick to it...much like a terry cloth...or also called a tack rag. Also I would say the injun filter was dirty, and with recent pulls in mind with that dirty filter compared to a new filter.
