K&N FIPK? [Merged 9-7] intake filter adapter kn

Changing the UICP is extremely easy I actually got full greddy piping with my type-S BOV. There might be a brand that lets you not have to tilt your k&n, but I am not sure.

IMO, There is not going to be a noticeable difference between different styles of cone shaped air filters. Your friends are just trying to justify their $100 they spent on an air filter. I wish I would have just went with the one that I have now in the first place. It would have saved me money.

I have no interference issues with my K&N FIPK/headlight/UICP. I have a Dejon intake pipe and Dejon UICP, and everything clears just fine - maybe other setups have issues.

However, one thing I don't like too much about my Dejon UICP is that it replaces the TB elbow, so to install or remove it, you end up having to deal with TB gaskets and possible boost leaks (the 4 bolts holding the TB elbow to the TB also hold the TB to the IM, so removing those bolts to install/pull the Dejon UICP ends up unbolting the TB from the IM). I'm thinking of cutting the UICP into two pieces and adding a coupler so that I can leave part of it on the TB.

I'm not sure what the K&N cone filter looks like, but the FIPK unit is oval, so there is more surface area on the filter which would decrease resistance. May not be much, though. The dyno sheet that comes in the kit only shows a 7+hp gain, so whatever the improvement is, it can't be more than 7hp different ;).

Hi, I am looking to purchase a K&N FIPK for my car but I am also looking for a cheaper alternative ### im a cheap bastard. I see people selling replacement filters for the K&N FIPK. Im not sure if this is the exact same thing as the whole kit without the adapters and nuts. Take a look.

Replacement filter:

Whole FIPK:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-5504-1

If the replacement filter is the exact same thing, couldnt i just buy that for $34 and buy an adapter elsewhere to bring my total cost way down? Thanks.

why dont you just get a universal round filter and get the adapter? i know they sell those adapters. there really isnt much of a difference, maybe like .01hp difference id say LOL.

He could do that, but the round filters arent nearly as big as the K&N one. I have it and it is just a beast of a filter, pretty much fills up the hole left by the stock airbox. Personally I just paid up the 100+ dollars for the kit from ExtremePSI and couldnt be happier.

If you buy a cheap adapter dont buy a 3In ebay style adapter. I did some testing and found that is inflates your airflow readings and will through your tune off. IMO the best filter adapter for a 2G MAS is the K&N FIPK.
BTW want to buy that filter for 28.02 shipped?
http://www.amazon.com/K-N-RF-1019-U...66?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1174189373&sr=8-1
Your welcome!

I got the adapter from a friend for free and got my K&N filter there. HA! I got a K&N FIPK for 28.02 shipped to my house!

DO NOT BUY ANY ADAPTER LIKE THIS:

It directs all the air through the center and the MAS dosent meter right. It will inflate you airflow.

go to autozone and get their universal mas adapter. takes minimal mods to make it lay on the mas flush, but thats not hard at all just dremel it flat. it works for me...it has a 4 inch inlet and works nice. im running it with a k&n filter and i cant complain.

Just a little FYI - the Vibrant Performance (VP) air intake filter is about an inch or two shorter than the common K&N cone filter that is used (the one that can be seen here). You may want to keep this in mind if you have a certain aftermarket UICP. I have found that with the Extreme PSI intake pipe, it is virtually impossible to use a K&N cone filter with it because there is simply not enough room. However, the VP air filter works quite nicely with Extreme PSI's intake pipe. :)

Oh, and Extreme PSI does sell the colored air filters seen here and here as a separate product, but they've been moving the link around, so it's hard to find this particular link through the pop-up windows they provide.

I'm trying to understand the need for all of these adapters and such but I just don't get it...

the $28 filter from amazon just slips right over the 2gmas and you hose clamp it on.. what's the issue here? why would you want a round filter instead?

Well, if you look here or here or here you will see that there is an adapter plate already attached to the MAS from the factory. Thus, you can't just throw on an air filter, because it would have nothing to clamp down on.

Thanks.. I see now..

I never got to see the stock airbox, I guess my car had a FIPK when I bought, I never even noticed the adapter plate, I just assumed the stock airbox hose clamped onto there...

This being the case I wouldn't buy the FIPK for that money, you know how easy it would be to make that adapter out of wood? kinda ghetto but you'd never see it and it'd work just fine.. could also use a thick plastic cutting board and a couple layered together if you were really against the wood idea.

i guess in canada they have a different K&N filter cause mine is like a cone (round not oval) and i just fabed a plastic ring so it would fit on the stock sensor
