Where are/were YOUR boost leaks?

Very good! Old, dirty throttle bodies are the source of a lot of annoying problems with these cars. I'm sure this nice fresh one will help you enjoy your DSM a lot more. :thumb:

This is true indeed. That and some exhaust work seeing as I can't even see how well my 16g works now because of my clogged cat. :*(

Waking up the dead a little bit here, but can someone explain their problems with their TB's leaking. As in what were the issues? Not building full boost? Or building full boost with a sputter? I've found mine is leaking and I can push about 3 lbs of boost and the car does fine, anything higher (i'm only pushing the stock 9) and it cuts out pretty bad. I'm just wondering if this will solve my problem. Specs on my 95 gsx are tubular ex mani, evo III big 16g, all new gaskets and full exh., COP, new plugs as well, thanks

Sorry , I didnt see that you replied to the thread. My TB leak consisted of the throttle body shaft seal, biss screw, and elbow to throttle body leaking. Keep in mind, if you have a small leak it can go a long way, depending on the condition of your leak. The major leak that I had was the TB shaft seal. But, it is common. I ended up buying a re-done TB from stevemonroe (tuner id) and its great. Looks good, all new seals, biss screw. Have you performed a boost leak test yet? Cause if you are only building 3psi, I would say that you have a leak somewhere else.. back when it was warm, I'd check mine for boost leaks all of the time. Remember when doing it, SOAPY WATER IS YOUR FRIEND. Spray the whole TB( biss screw, TB elbow to TB, TB to intake etc.), Bov/flange, since you are running 16g the J-pipe, inter cooler piping upper and lower, injectors, anything and everything that has to do with vaccum. Use the posted video as a guide.Pressurize the system to 20psi and see what kind of leaks you can get. Chances are there are some.

I wish this thread was around when I had my car.. I had boost leaks like craaaazy.. My couplers kept blowing off too.. I had a leaky TB and like 20 little holes haha.

I have a HUGE boost leak in the middle of my intake manifold. It starts at the top right corner, runs all the way around the right side, down the entire bottom all the way to the left side of the manifold. Of course I have to get it welded. Car can't even hold 24psi.

I would just get a new manifold personally if it is actually cracked and not the gasket leaking.

I had a teeny, tiny crack on my VC that only leaked oil under boost pressure. Also, had a leaking cam seal that only leaked under boost pressure. My mysterious oil leak...

You shouldn't have pressure entering your crankcase to Begin with... Get a US plastics one way check valve for where you PCV goes it should help... If not, you have bigger problems

Bringing it back, I fixed a leak on my dip stick, tb, ic couplers, j pipe, intake manifold, but I can hear one coming from near the driver side of my fuel rail. I can't seem to find it though even with soapy water. And I can only build 15 psi while testing.

Had a leaky BOV.. holes in stock intercooler piping, throttle body seal, break booster, threads of my adjustable fuel pressure regulator, threads of my MBC... i believe thats about it so far!!
oh had a bad pcv valve and it leaked out my valve cover!

So far i've had ones at an intercooler piping coupler, Throttle body, and last but not least the COMPRESSOR HOUSING....stupid o-ring :notgood: . It took me like a week to figure out where the hell it was coming from. :coy:

Damn! you're just full of leaky goodness! :D

Oh, and i forgot 1 thing. Two of my lower injector seals also caused me boost leaks.

I gotta question, when I do my blt I set my compressor to 20 psi but my boost gauge only reads 15 but I don't hear and can't find a leak. is that a normal drop from compressor to boost gauge?

I had leaks at the throttle body shaft seals, biss screw, injector o rings, intercooler, couplers, right between the intake manifold and the throttle body, and misc vacuum hoses. The injector o rings were like lifesavers hard and the biss screw o ring crumbled upon removal. The throttle body shaft seals were also non existent upon disassembly.

If it's supposed to hold boost pressure, I've had a leak from it.

-Dry rotted vacuum lines
-BISS
-Throttle body gaskets
-Throttle shaft seals
-Blown IC couplers
-Leaky BOVs
-Snapped t-bolt clamps
-Rubbed a hole in an aluminum IC pipe
-Around my IAT bung
-Injector seals
-Intake manifold gasket
-PCV valve
-Loose fitting on back of mechanical boost gauge
-and the list goes on...

I found them all by setting up my boost leak tester and then sprayed bubble stuff (the stuff that kids blow bubbles with using a wand) out of a spray bottle. I had to wash my whole engine bay afterward, but I wanted to make sure I found all the leaks and that stuff makes even the smallest hole noticeable.

When I bought my '92 TSi FWD, there were pinholes the entire radius of the neck where the upper intercooler hose connected to the intercooler. They were so bad that anytime you went wide-open, the car would buck and hit fuel cut, or otherwise run like complete shit.

The previous owner was a 16-year-old girl, and there were receipts in the glove box where they had the car back to the dealer complaining of issues that were described as "poor performance in 2nd and 3rd gears". They did a tune up and replaced a bunch of random shit, but on the last trip to the dealer which was just 3 weeks before I bought the car, they replaced the ECU with a new one....which just happened to be an EPROM. LOL

All that money spent by her at the dealer and all the car needed was some boost leaks fixed and a new knock sensor.

The funny part was not long after I did a few upgrades and fixed all the minor problems with the car, the clutch began to slip....no doubt a result of the previous owner being a 16-year-old girl. ROFL
