When should I get a GSX for my project?

Hey guys, I just turned 18 and heading off to college but ever since I came across dsm's I can't get them out of my head and a 98-99 GSX will be my first project car, one that i will completely strip out and rebuild down to every nut and bolt. But Since I am going to college idk when I should get one. I really dont want to wait 4 years but idk how else I am going to do what I want to do when im in school. Im just scared that GSX's wont be around and I wont have any suppliers for new engines and stuff after 4 years. Any advice?

You can always get one and piece it together as you go. Im just finishing college and have been building mine throughout college and I am also just finishing the car. Why do you only want the 98-99 GSX? What is so different about the 97 that makes you not want one?

You should can start off just one stock and just make ita daily driver then buil engine on side or work small mods until you are ready to go bigger.

i thought about that but when im going to build my gsx, im stripping the thing down, restoring the chassis so theres no rust whatsoever, new paint and then new everything, not just an engine build but thanks for the advice though

Rather than looking for the 98-99 because they are "newer" even though they are pretty much the same car, I would look for a 97-99 with the least amount of rust and miles.

And yes, I have a 97 and its the body style you are looking for.

do u or does anybody know how much a chassis and body restore would cost. if i were to strip the car out, remove the engine interior and literally everything, and give it to a shop that will clean it up get rid of all the rust and just make the chassis as good as new

Yes I got what you meant. Just look for a stock-ish one and before you buy, inspect VERY closely for rust. The strut towers are the most important. We dont want you getting fvcked. I had a DSM when I was in college before I enlisted in the Army and could afford it. I think you will be fine.

well im at community college right now and next semester im transferring to a college 3 hours away from my home for my bachelors in auto technology and ill be there for 3 years. so the only thing is time and location, where am i going to keep this car?my parents wont let me put it in their garage. when will i be working on it? im thinking i will be better off waiting till im out of college and out on my own but i really dont want to wait that long.

i want to get a gsx, strip it out completely, have the chassis and body restored and painted, get a brand new engine and push 800hp, and literally just have everything new in it down to the last nut and bolt. and int he end i want mine to look like this.... but maybe different wheels

If you can afford to buy one now then buy one and store it, but you may have to pay to store it somewhere. I personally would only buy one if it was a perfect car with NO rust at all and low miles, or else I would wait until I was able to provide a place to store it and funds to support it. It all comes down to what you can afford right now my friend.

If you like projects find a shell, store it somewhere, and start from scratch thats fun mod it yourself, and build it from the ground up, if i dont find a running one, gonna get a shell. Isnt that your goal a ground up build.

yeah a good amount of money but im prepared im 18 now and i have had a job since i was 12, and ever since i have been saving my money...and now i know what i have been saving for. i know i still need alot more but what i have is a start...iguess

You can always pick up a storage room. Some of them have power. Last time I lived in a small apartment I had a storage room across the street that was less than my cable bill (telephone/tv/internet was on same bill) I had my Mirage-S Swap in there and worked on it 3-4 days a week during the winter/fall. Was just big enough for my car/tools/parts shelf.

You should really worry about school first before a car. In four years you might not even like these cars anymore...doubt it though.

As for 800hp, im not sure that you understand what it would even take to get there or if you even know what 800hp really means. Get used to 200hp first, then 250, 300, etc, etc.

Michigan but gotta get this engine rebuilt, looking thats all, working on my engine and some upgrades, maybe when i relocate ill find one plus these damn student loans.
