Ok guys I'm first off going. Say that the car listed in my profile is not the one I'm driving. Well I have a 97 tsi that is a full 99 eclipse conversion. 17 in motegi rims and anhighrise spoiler. Now for performance i have a full 3.5 inch exhaust with a tubular o2 and headers with a big 16g running 18psi. I have a front mount, fic 550 injectors, wally190 required to a switch on the dash. I have 3G lifters from another car but I've been holding off n putting them in yet because I'm unsure of my next mod... Oh I have an apexi safc2 and a wideband. I'm thinking cams and head studs buti would like input from everyone else.

Why would you bother on swapping the turbo when you haven't even hit the potential of the 16g yet?

Assuming you are running stock boost, the 16g isnt even starting to breathe at 10-12psi... the jump to 17 for me was a huge improvement (aside from the timing issue) and that's still not even in its efficiency range. My plans are to go to 20-22, but I won't do it till I have link. I'm even thinking about going back to 12psi until I get a better tuning solution and something I can consistantly log with... not some $8 cable that I have to jiggle just right to get it to link up with my laptop.

In the end its your car to do with as you please, yet all but one person in here has said to get link over any other crap you are thinking about... majority rules, in my book at least...

Haha dude I'm running 18 psi not stock. I just want to make like 400 hp.and a guy wants to trade me for his 20 g but idk what to so or if it is even worth it. Besides I think I need a new clutch soon. It deals weird durring the heat of summer

Well icdont mean to go against you but everyone I talk to and everywhere I read say that a 20g is perfect for a 400 hp build because that is not maxing it out and it will spool faster than the hx35

I agree with everyone that you need the ECMlink. I would also do the cams, put in the new lifters, and change that fuel pump to a Walbro 255. New spark plugs when you change all of this and an oil change to good oil.

Plugs are brand new and 500 miles on the oil. I stopped at a gas station and went inside to pay. I came back out and found a pool of oil under my car. My filter was held on by three threads. Idk how it happened but it did and it wasn't me who put that filter on it was valovoline from the kid I bought the car from. But yea I have 3G lifters but I've been waiting to put them in because I want to get cams so ill do it at the same time

Keep the hx35. You'll need some 1000 cc injectors and a 255 to support it but that's the absolute cheapest way you'll get in the 400's. You can get delta cams all day for 200, kelford or hks grind which have both done 700 hp.

You can install head studs without disturbing the head gasket. The stock 7-bolt head bolts are torqued to yield and will permanently deform if stretched. With ARP standard studs and a decent tune, the stock gasket can hold well over 500hp with room to spare. But otherwise I completely agree.

I know you can but I dont want this person to mess it up. If he is careful and does it right he will be fine but the expense of messing it up is what i would want him to avoid. And yes 7 bolt head bolts suck. I lifted my stock 2.4 7 bolt head at 18 psi with a TD05 20G last year (205K on that motor)

Haha sorry hut that is kinda different..... You were running a 20g at 18psi on a motor with over 200k. You didn't expect that to happen? But yea I didn't want it to lift so I got studs
