As this compilation of threads illustrates,
IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER WHAT OIL YOU USE.
It's the twenty-first century. Metallurgy and lubrication science have both taken such astounding leaps over the last fifty years that virtually all the once-true tales of oils and preferences are obsolete.
If you're seriously interested in what goes into, why, how and how much oil, check http://bobistheoilguy.com/

what oil should i use for a 90talon tsi awd during the winter?

Costal 5w-30, autozone special..$.69 a quart..j/k..I run Mobil 1 5W-30 all year round..I'm probally going to switch to Royal Purple..I've heard better reviews..Mobil 1 makes are car sound like a tick machine!

Currently, I have Bertolli extra virgin olive and Wesson canola in my pantry. I guess I'm the only one that cooks on here?

Wait...Walmart and Chevron, do you not care about your engines at all?
Mobil 1 here....

Find me one incident of an engine being ruined by using conventional oil.

LOL..now that's funny

As you see from the staggeringly broad range of answers -and as you'd have determined with a couple of simple searches- it doesn't matter.

It probably never did matter as much as was claimed in the past -I'm still searching for that engine that "Pennzoil blew up!"- but it matters much, much less today than even five years ago.

Closed.

Valvoline SynPower 20w50 - summer car only

0w40 mobil 1 is the pewrfoermance choice around here..(germany : gets cold)

but im trying out 10w30 mobil 1 next season(got 12 quarts..thanx boosttfool 4g63)

since i drive my car only in the summer..it shouldnt hurt anything..

My car kind of has a "oil history" you could say.

1. Valvoline Maxlife 10w-30
2. Mobil 1 10w-30
3. Royal Purple 10w-30
4. Mobil 1 10w-30
5. Super Tech Fully Synthetic 10w-30
6. Current: Valvoline Durablend 10w-30

I guess I have been indecisive a time or two. OMG I might stick to the Durablend though. Not sure Mobil or Royal Purple is worth the extra money in my opinion. I try to change oil every 1500-2000 miles anyways (90% city vehicle) and that gets expensive after awhile.

I have a 1990 gs-t with a 16g turbo :dsm: . My oil filter is due for a change and I was thinking I should change my oil as well so it'll be fresh. I was wondering, should I use mobil 1 fully synthetic oil? Or should I use amsoil?
I've been using amsoil but I've heard alot of people dont trust it.
